Re: Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 GT : Official Review

Man, I'm disheartened to see my favourite muscle car get such a sad rating . Only cars built in developing countries by relatively newer manufacturers have gotten 2 stars in the NCAP. This is bad on Ford's part.

Club that with the Mustang's slippery easy-to-slide rear end and you know it's a dangerous car in the wrong hands.

Sucks.

Re: Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 GT : Official Review

Ford's shocking dual standards!

Ford resisted Mustang testing, ANCAP alleges.

ANCAP says it unsuccessfully attempted to secure Ford Mustangs to crash test on several occasions, before encouraging its European sister organisation Euro NCAP to pick up the baton.

Quote:
The result was the sensational and “shocking” two-star result announced for the GT Fastback this week, which Euro NCAP alleges came about because Ford did not expect — and therefore did not design — the Mustang to be tested outside of America, which has different testing regimes.

The implication of this, should it be true, is that Ford potentially knew full-well that it would achieve a bad NCAP score, and attempted to postpone testing until it could introduce a series of promised 2018 model year updates.

Re: Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 GT : Official Review

This is disgusting! Not expected from Ford; that too for one of their most premium offerings

Even their response seems completely lackluster. "Next iteration with have this that and blah" ..... what about the ones driving it now? What about those especially in India who shelled out more than half a crore to get a taste of this American Muscleberry pie????

Shameful

NHTSA 5-star vs NCAP 2-star

Is there a major difference in the cars tested by NHTSA and NCAP??

Or should the buyers ignore one of the organisations' report while taking a decision whether to buy or not?

Re: Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 GT : Official Review

NDTV Auto reports that Ford India will launch the Mustang facelift here sometime in 2018, at a similar price point at which the present Mustang is offered in India.

Quote:
The new car also gets a boot spoiler and a new diffuser at the rear with a quad exhaust tip setup (as a hark back to some of the high powered Mustangs of the early 70s). The new car also gets a new set of split five spoke wheels apart from the standard BBS-esque multi spoke wheels.

The biggest improvement though will be on the interior front where the standard dual barrel gauge cluster has been replaced by a new LCD screen that not only offers a few versions in terms of display configurations but also the option of custom colour combinations that the owner can choose from. The new Mustang will also get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Re: Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 GT : Official Review

Okay, though this 12 inch LCD display is hogging all the limelight, I think the biggest update is the improvement to the drive train including the 5.0 ltr. V-8 that has been revised substantially.

Mustang chief engineer Carl Widmann states that the only truly carryover piece from the current 5.0-liter is the crankshaft. Along with a new fuel-delivery system employing both port and direct injection, the updated V-8 also revs higher than before. A quad-pipe exhaust system replaces the current dual-pipe unit, and, as on its fiercest competitor, the Chevrolet Camaro, there’s an optional variable exhaust system that keeps things quiet at lower rpm but amps up the noise courtesy of valves that open when heavier throttle is applied.

Both 2018 Mustang engines (the 4 banger Eco-boost & the V-8) are mated to either an upgraded six-speed manual transmission (not sure if the manual tranny will be offered in India though) or a new, optional 10-speed automatic (still likely to be the best bet for India). In the case of the V-8, the manual transmission also incorporates a twin-disc clutch and a dual-mass flywheel. Additionally, all 2018 Mustangs are treated to retuned dampers, new anti-roll bars, and revisions to the rear suspension bushings, while cars equipped with the Performance package gain the GT350’s electronically adjustable magnetorheological dampers, another piece of tech already on the Camaro.

I believe these magnetorheological dampers will do wonders to already improved (by virtue of elimination of the live axle) ride/handling of the Mustang.

Now this is a car that I will seriously consider instead of the M3.

Re: Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 GT : Official Review

Having owned a 2006 V6 and now a 2005 GT, and having driven a 2016 GT for extensive periods, here are my 2 cents for Mustang owners in India.

If you want the car to not go sideways, DO NOT accelerate too hard at low speeds, or after being at halt when :-
  1. its raining or has rained and the roads are wet
  2. from a red light if you are to make a turn
  3. You are on those white markers on the road (which have rubber coating)

Now coming to the mods.

The most basic mods you can have is get a cold air intake and louder exhausts. A cold air intake might trigger the CEL, in which case you would need a tuner (SCT X4 or X3) and a tune.

Read someone wanted to put in Flowmasters, my advice would be to go for Borla's or SLP loudmouths (even though my pony has Flowmaster Outlaws). Also, get the factory cats removed and get an offroad H pipe. Again, removing the factory cats will trigger the CIL, hence a tuner would be needed.

Also, make sure to check if the factory warranty will be voided if you make these changes.

I know comparisons are obvious, but comparing a Mustang to German cars is not worthy of doing so. Like I said, I own a 2005 GT and its has the most basic interior, but I love it. Why? Because of the raw power, even at 100mph if I floor it she responds like anything. On the roads, you can have fun with the Camaro's, Charger's, Corvette's and an occasional Lexus because everyone from a Supra to a Honda wants to race a Mustang. You know what I am trying to say, buy a Mustang for the fun part, the experience and the pride of driving a Mustang. Do not crib about the interiors, ignore that because the Mustang is much more than that.

Also, when purchasing it think of it as a 2 door, 2 seater car. Do not think of it as a 4 seater car. Adults in the rear seat of a Mustang will rarely be comfortable.

In America, the Mustang is an enthusiast car, lets keep it the same in India as well. I know, the price is not what we expected but it's a beginning. Ford bringing the Mustang to India is a big deal, pretty sure down the line they will start importing them as Knocked Down Units and assemble in India.

My impression of the mustang is here. Although I tried hard, I couldn't do justice to the lines of this thing.

Either ways here it is:

100% agreed.

In fact, this is what I caution everybody when they are about to drive my pony for the first time. No hard revving in low gears and during turns!

Even on dry roads with a little bit of gravel, it is very easy to slide the rear if you are a little over enthusiastic with the throttle. I have had a couple of scary moments when I had just got the Stang.

Wet roads and the summer performance tyres on my Pony are a (crowd) killer combination!

We have a Whatsapp group for Stang owners and once it started raining here, all owners were seen warning each other in the group to go easy... it is that lethal!

A stock Mustang is boring and I am itching to prep my car.

For the exhaust, I am contemplating on the MBRP Pro series or the Bassani. I feel Roush is over-the-top loud and Borla S-type is ridiculously expensive. Maybe it is worth it, but I can't just get myself to spend over 3.5k USD + shipping for axle back exhausts!

Re: Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 GT : Official Review

Was at Ford for the 40k service of the Fiesta and spotted these two. Black was looking gorgeous.

And i noted there was a big Ford logo atop the windshield. It was always there and i had never noticed this till now, so was amusing. I think that logo is a bit too large.

That's as much as the 2017 Suzuki Swift, but without its safety pack.

From 2 stars to 3 has been an improvement though! But can't imagine why a company like Ford is struggling to get better results with such an expensive car as the Mustang!

Spotted this red Mustang today. As rightly said in one of the posts - grabs as much attention as a red Ferrari.

Was the Mustang's launch anniversary last week. Got this very tasteful nameplate from Ford. Going straight to my bedroom or hall .
