Selection process is almost over and decided to go ahead with IGNIS Petrol Manual. Booked DELTA Pearl Arctic White, later changed to Glistening Grey. Now I am confused between Delta & Zeta.

Reason for striking out other cars in the list

WagonR VXi+ - the only variant with ABS and Airbags is priced at 5.25 Lakhs OTR in Kerala (after a discount of Rs. 25000).

Tiago - RF Motors Thodupuzha was not even interested in selling the car, how can I expect them to give a decent after sales service. I requested for a test drive in the Tata cars website on a Saturday and got a call from Tata customer care on the same day and they booked a test drive on Monday and said I will get a call from RF motors. I didn't hear from them on Monday, Tuesday somebody called and I asked them to arrange for a test drive on next Monday. Four Mondays passed since then and nobody cared to call.

How much did they quote for Reverse Camera + Sensors with IRVM screen installation?

I think if I remember correctly it was for 12000 rs and 8000 for on dash with screen. In both cases camera to be drilled into that black plastic in rear bumper.

I was seriously considering to buy Ignis AMT model, but was totally put down by the fact that top end model does not have AMT. This was a bummer and a deal breaker to me. Seriously not sure what is Maruthi's strategy on this. When I am spending money for AMT model which is priced higher than top model, I expect top end features in my car?

This is great stuff. India made ignis with same build as India cars launched in South Africa at a higher rate. Ignis is a truly international car

Suzuki Ignis creates positive reviews in all countries launched so far. Does extremely well in Europe, Australia and Nz.

Yesterday, I have taken the delivery of my petrol Ignis Zeta AMT. This is basically as a second vehicle and my wife would be using it. Attached are the pictures of the same

Didn't expect this to happen,

Last Tuesday (23rd May), I had been to NEXA to see the Ignis.

After seeing it, requested for Test Drive, was impressed by the Engine along with Good Ride & High Seating Position.

Test drove both Manual & AMT. The AMT was disappointing, while Manual was fun & peppy.

Decided on Overpriced Alpha, (Touchscreen HU, Reverse Camera, Climate Control & Powerful LED Headlights) were the key factors for favouring Alpha over Zeta (Actual Preferred Variant).

Initial Color choice was Red/Blue with Black Roof. My RM quickly informed me that 4 Ignis' are on the way & can be delivered within a Week. Unfortunately they were available only in single tone (White/Silver/Urban Blue/Grey). I decided to look at Silver instead since it has been long time (15 years) we had a Silver Car. Booked Silver Alpha Petrol.

Received call yesterday that my car has arrived. Requested my younger brother to do the PDI who went ahead and reported no issues with car. I called RM & asked him to get it ready & requested for Black Seat Covers. By evening my car was ready. Will be taking delivery today or tomorrow depending on my workload.

Will be updating once I get my hands on the car.

I have been on the fence to get a petrol auto hatch for quite sometime now. It will replace our 12 year old Alto. Going to be used most frequently by my folks. I was hoping to pick up the Tiago AMT. But after a couple of test drives (of manual, AMT), I can't convince myself to pick up that engine. Though it is a truly VFM offering from Tata, I am not 100% convinced.

People who have driven both, is the Ignis petrol AMT that much better than Tiago's? Specifically the engine refinement and lag in 1->2 shift?

Need to get a thorough test drive myself of the Ignis auto this weekend.

Tiago Petrol is good for most part, but the engine & that AMT Gearbox don't gel well. AMT although better then one in Celerio doesn't have that smoothness in it.

The Ignis does slightly better due to 4 cylinder setup & extra 200cc displacement. They can be called as average. If you are keen on Pakka Automatic, check out the Baleno CVT which is very smooth & efficient as well. Also, Baleno matches that "More Car, Per Car" tag very well. :)

There are 2 problems with the Baleno - seating and cost.
My folks didn't like the seating posture at all in Baleno. Otherwise it would have been a little easier to convince them. Same case with the Tiago, though still not as bad. Celerio was next, acceptable to them. I sense they are most comfortable with a tallboy seating (WagonR or i10). But I am not letting them settle for a Waggie or i10. :)

From the reviews it appears, the seating is higher in Ignis and hoping they will like it. The better engine+AMT combo is an added advantage compared to the likes of Celerio/Tiago. Let me get a feel of the car, will share my observations soon.

Test drove ignis petrol amt and came back pretty surprised by the overall drive in a positive way. As planning to buy for wife,let her drive too and after a back to back test drive of both baleno n ignis , wife selected ignis as the view out is better from within the car . Subsequent test drives of jazz and brio also did not sway her choice of car and now we will most probably be getting an ignis amt zeta if maruti doesn't launch it in alpha. Since we have a ritz and will be trading it in ignis is almost like ritz with added convenience of amt plus a more chic design. For a second city car for novice drivers in family I cannot think of any other option. Only wish they had amt in alpha.

If that's the case, then it's Ignis which is the better choice :thumbs up.

I wish Maruti also offered AMT in Alpha Trim. Those LED headlights are very bright & well spread. In fact, LED headlights were the main reason I bought Ignis Alpha over Zeta.

These are the list of accessories I asked for and the price in Kerala.


When I asked about IRVM display, they said it is not offered for IGNIS. Wanted to do vinyl floor covering also (done in my S-Cross) and they quoted around Rs. 2600 initially, but today my RM said Maruti discourages Vinyl floor lamination and under body anti rust coating from June 2017.

Now I am confused about the variants, Delta or Zeta. Overall price difference (including accessories) would be Rs. 56255/- (I can remove Mud Flaps and Rear Parking sensors from the list if Zeta is selected). Considering the price difference of Rs. 56255, I am inclined towards Zeta.

In Kerala, they are saying no offers for IGNIS. Is there any offers for IGNIS in other markets? Or has anybody managed to get basic accessories atleast?

My Ignis has now run 850kms and I have been constantly receiving calls from TR Swahney motors (I bought the Ignis from them) tracking the kilometers car has run and when can I send it for 1st service.

They are aggressively pushing that I opt for 'At Home' servicing option where they send their servicing van. One of the reason for this may be that they dont have workshop in Gurgaon. Only workshop they have is in Okhla.

I am wondering if I should opt for their at home servicing as it the 1st service where no major work is going to happen or should I go to a regular maruti service center.

Second dilemma I am in is whether to change engine oil or not? And if should change oil then should it be mineral or synthetic.

Would be great to get feedback from. Ignis owners and other car pundits. :-)

Firstly congrats on your new Ignis. Wish you miles and miles of drive with smiles. :)

Coming to your first point, unless you have something to complain in your car, it would be a good idea to give a shot to "At Home" option. Why? Since in 1st service, there's barely anything but for regular checks, cleaning the air filter, wash, polish & deliver. So, it will be a good opportunity for you to test it and then share your experience here with all of us.

Coming to your second point, no need to replace the engine oil so soon. 850km on odo is too nascent for an oil change and I believe even the owner's manual wouldn't be recommending an oil change during the first free service. So, do let the engine and other mechanicals wear well and settle(very important). Later during the subsequent service(s), wherever you go for the first oil change, go for the normal mineral based oil only. Why? Let the engine be given further opportunity to wear & settle.

Post 10k on the odo is when you should think of switching to synthetic based oil.
