All good till I was in D and no need to press the break and the car stayed in its position.I moved the gear lever to N, applied the handbrake and my Thar started moving back. It does not happen in my other cars - Creta P AT and Crysta Manual. Has anyone else noticed similar behavior in Thar or is this a one off case and requires a check?

Hill hold is to keep the vehicle in place for a few seconds as you stop on a gradient and resume. Please refer the owner's manual, the operation is detailed in there. ATs in drive mode does hold the vehicle on a moderate slope , but if you move to N, it will roll back as it was the transmission that was holding the vehicle in place.

Cars that have Auto-hold with electronic parking brake behaves differently from HHC.

Shouldn't the handbrake keep it in place? For me, even after applying the handbrake it was going back. Seems either the handbrake is not powerfull enough by design or my car's handbrake requires a check.

My initial CPD around later half of the July is now moved to earlier half of Oct. Every time I'm calling the sales rep, he gives me the news that the CPD is moved further by another 12 days or so.
I understand that the shortage of semiconductor or other spares is non-existent for at least past couple months now. However, the purchase date continues to be pushed further. I'm not sure if M&M is been diverting their capacities to other models and mfg. efforts!
I understand the variant (LX D AT HT) I have on my booking has the longest waiting period. Looks like the color you choose doesn't make a big difference, in a way it may even reduce your chances to get the cancelled bookings passed over to you if one has booked a color that wasn't booked by many (looks to be my case with mystic copper, I've seen many colors in my area, but yet to see this one in real).
I shall continue to wait and see how M&M is dealing with such challenges. I hope they have a better approach doing this with XUV700, most of those customers are not going to posses monk like patience that many Thar enthusiasts have here.

Please test it somewhere safely, you do need to pull it a bit more than usual but once its locked the vehicle will stay in place. If this is not the case, cable needs to be adjusted.

I have not read the manual in detail yet. However, I feel the HHC may be something that's going to help you holding the position on a slope while you are in between the gear changes or those quick seconds where you may engage clutch and it should prevent the vehicle rolling back during such moments.

This could also be the effectiveness of the hand-break in this case. I assume the wire handbrakes also gets engaged in stages depending on how much it was pulled, in certain conditions/slopes, the way I engage it and my wife does shows the difference, some added muscle would help engage it to full.
I have experienced this many times on very steep slope where I start to hear the screeching sound of handbrakes not able to hold it and I have to use other means to hold the car. So, if you sure you engaged it fully and it still moved without making you feel any friction on handbrakes, you may want to get it checked with ASC during your next visit.

Check it again on a slope. Are you sure you went from D to N and not R?

Happened to me once, realized I was in R. The handbrake isn't powerful enough to stop it in Reverse gear.

Positive, I was in N. Checked it multiple times as I have never faced it in the past with any other car.

Mystic copper is well worth the wait, mate! The color stands out nicely without being overly gaudy. I have had mine now for 8 months and it turns heads even today.

Don't fret. Whenever you go to the worshop next have it checked and also cross check with another new Thar.
I have seen that almost all cars have peculiarities based on type and manufacturer.
I'll try to check in the morning on the ramp in my dealership if I remember it and revert.

Thank you sir. This will be very helpful. I am anyways visiting the service centre next week for an ac vent replacement and usb port replacement. In case the observation is different for you, I will ask them to find a solution for me.

I was just trying to book the Thar via their website and upon selecting the state and district it returned with the following message.

Is there an option to select the dealer when we book it online? Kochi(Ernakulam as in their drop down list) is the city I was looking for. The city list is not even alphabetically sorted. Kochi is not found either.

Need to get the 1000 km service done for my Thar. Any suggestions on which service center is good in NCR? Don't have any experience with Mahindra ASS before.

Any inputs you can share will be very helpful

I had my Thar's 1st service done last week at Koncept Mohan Co-operative. 2 issues reported- 1. Alignment 2. USB port not working. They were able to solve the first one pretty well but not the second one. They are in touch with Mahindra for the second one. Overall a pleasant experience.
A recommendation to go only on weekdays as weekend rush was atleast 3X of weekday rush and the car will not get the care it deserves.

I was told by the ASM today that the Diesel Automatics are not getting delivered here in Bangalore since last 2 months. There is every chance that the current CPD of Dec 16th will get extended to Feb 2022. Is there any truth in this ? Bangalore folks who got any info on the same can enlighten us here.

Same story narrated by my ASM and SA. Min CPD was August 30 which is now Sept 17. Don’t see any hope.
