Took a TD of petrol automatic XUV 700. One thing I can tell for sure is that driver seat ergonomics in XUV as compared to Harrier are light years ahead. Moreover, the AX5 variant is great value for money except one thing i.e. cruise control. M&M should NOT have skipped cruise control in a 20lakh car even if it meant deleting a few more features. With that out of the way, the car had a very good suspension and absorbed potholes and speed breakers well. The driving position was commanding and all around visibility was adequate. An important thing to note here is that side and rear profile of XUV looks more like an MPV than a crossover (no offence) while Harrier looks amazing from all the angles.

Hey guys!! Have been a little busy these past few weeks and had little to zero time for Internet.

So first of all, heartfelt gratitude to everyone who had answered my query on the holding period of the vehicle once it arrives in the dealership. As of now the preliminary inspection, the vehicle price transferred and Insurance has been done. The vehicle wouldn't turn on the inspection day but the service manager assured that it was a battery drain issue caused due to negligence of the driver who had left the vehicle with the battery still on. In any case, they rectified it within half an hour.

Also decided to opt for a vanity number on the vehicle and with some right calls, was able to get the same within a day. Now with everything done and sorted, waiting for the mahurat(auspicious) day to get the delivery and get on with some planned drives.

Indeed they have. I, pretty much like everyone who had booked on Day 1, was disappointed with the delivery dates as I had been given the date of June 2022. But it's good to see them delivering the steeds to their customers.

+1 to this. Out of all the steeds in our stable as of now, only Toyota remains rust free. Both MS vehicles have varying degree of rust, with the underbody of Baleno requiring professional help now. And it's only 4 years old. The earlier XUV 500 I drove was also diseased with Rust, so with Mahindra, I won't be seeing much difference in my ownership experience.

For insurance, You have either these big corporates like AIG, Reliance, HDFC and Bajaj Allianz; or you have these newcomers like ACKO, Godigit etc. While buying Insurance, as an advice, you just don't look for the cheapest, you look for the simplest. Simplest in terms of the whole claim process and what it offers you as well. While the big honchos will ask for heavier premiums, they are more simpler to approach for any policy or claim and are much more accountable. With the online insurers, it's a sort of hit or miss thing, in my experience.

Okay, so as far Mahindra goes, they have tie ups with Tata AIG, Reliance and HDFC Ergo (Bajaj Allianz as well in some dealerships). So pretty much like you, I wanted the best one. Reliance offered me the cheapest option out of the three but HDFC Ergo offered me the best option somewhere in the range of 60 thousand. That was 17,000 cheaper than what the dealership was charging. But, in any case, my suggestion would be to go for one which offers the cashless process, just for the simplicity of the aftermath of any accident, and don't forget to add Zero Dep and RTI.:D

I am pretty sure we, at this forum, have gone over the whole Fiat 2.0 Diesel mill's issue with the oil filter placement right in front of driver's footrest, which in a head-on-collision might protrude into the cabin and injure the driver's legs/knees. While I wasn't able to find a schedule of GNCAP test for Harrier, I'm sure that all the various discussions we all have had on this forum on so many threads now, it's pretty much clear that if it were 5 stars, Tata would have sent it for a crash test ages ago.

And on the electric front as well, Harrier is a much more simpler being than XUV. It omits electric steering for a Hydraulic one, a much simpler touchscreen, none of the fancy gizmos, handbrake instead of an e-brake to name few. With lesser electronics, you would expect a lot less niggles but the same hasn't been and Tata ASC have a reputation of not being able to rectify electrical niggles.

I installed the rear camera that's part of the official accessory list. I didn't not install cruise control as i did not want to give Mahindra a reason to void my warranty! :)

Well, only if this AX5 variant had cruise control it would have been a perfect Harrier XT rival. Many people would steer towards the TATA for this one feature, or atleast that's what I think.

I finally got delivery of my XUV700 AWD AX7L on Wednesday. It has been a pleasure driving it. Having had a Honda City for 12 years, got used to petrol engines. The XUV diesel is not noisy but will need a slight getting-used-to.

While driving on the Hyderabad ORR, the ADAS feel is amazing.. the vehicle auto accelerates and decelerates and auto-steers itself based on lane markings. The world class roads and this world class vehicle combo gives a great feeling.

Plan to make a trip to Guntur via Vijayawada this coming Thursday.

Few qns:

1. Are the AX7L seats future compatible for ventilated-seats feature when it comes?

2. Is it possible to convert the manual tailgate to a powered tailgate?

Congratulations! I am also looking forward to driving XUV700 on ORR once I get the delivery. Many many many months away as of now but I did test drive on ORR and it felt really good!

Side note: It took you 15 years (since registering) and a new XUV700 for your first post. (I couldn't resist mentioning this :) )

1. The seats are not compatible for future upgrade to ventilated seats.
2. Minister road Hyderabad had an outlet which converts regular hatches to powered doors. Not sure if it's still functional.
3. May we know which dealer you booked from pls? (I have booked with Automotive RP Road)

Folks… did my PDI yesterday. First off, absolutely love the beast. Went through the detailed checklist.., amazing way to get to know the car. Thanks for compiling and sharing.

Everything checked out fine (mileage of 30 - will do quite some more before handover, but that is ok). One thing that stuck me odd was the these two wires in the photo - jutting out like this. I checked out a few more cars… hit and miss, some have them like it and others don’t (random - no pattern. Raised a complaint - SA said he will look at it. Reaching out here to learn about others’ experience. How to deal with this?

One other key feature the AX5 Petrol lacks is ESC, although the Diesel has it. As pointed out by a fellow-bhp-ian, this is an important feature in a large UV. I really am at a loss to see why M&M would skip this in the petrol but provide it on the diesel.

Most other manufacturers are moving to ESC as a standard feature. Best recent examples are the Skoda Kushaq/Slavia, Volkswagen Tiguan/Virtus and the Kia Carens, all of these provide ESC as standard even from the base variant. I am not sure why Mahindra would skip this as a standard feature in the XUV 700, which has a 5 Star safety rating and positions itself as a very safe vehicle compared to competition.

Expect to do PDI of my AX7 L Petrol Automatic Midnight Black tomorrow. I plan to follow Team BHP PDI checklist. What accessories do you think I should get, I am contemplating the following:
1. Screen protector
2. Scuff plates in boot and doors, illuminated or simple yet to decide
3. Mudflaps
4. Side foot step
5. Floor mats, I am planning for Kagu 3D, they are expected in another 2 weeks, I am not sure if I should invest in one cheap ones for the interim
6. I am also thinking of installing PPF on front and rear bumpers or the four corners. From my experience with my present XUV500 that have been very useful in protecting the paint in these scratch prone areas.

For insurance I have taken quote from Policybazar which is coming to Rs 45,000 after claiming 45% NCB from my present policy. The dealer is not pushing for any accessory or incidental charges etc.

Any advice from this group would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

I too am surprised how Mahindra is playing the Hyundai game here. Being the supposed torch bearers of vehicle safety in India, I guess they are using the public awareness on safety for their own advantage. First let the general public tilt towards choosing the safer car by voluntarily sending car for crash test and scoring a 5star and then push them to AX5 or AX7 for something as basic as ESP. I remember reading somewhere on the forum that no company is doing this out of the goodness of their heart and they are just using safety as a measure to milk more from the customer (don't think that I am don't appreciate companies for making stronger cars). I think TATA is far better than Mahindra in this aspect as they are offering ESP on even the base variants of Harrier. The AX3 variant seemed very VFM for a customer shopping in CSUV segment but one close look at features list and it goes right out of the box.lol:

Totally agree.
We had the feature of Cruise Control even in first generation 5OO W6 as well.

Does it has a separate screen or just visible in the center console while engaging the Reverse Gear ?
