Haha, no no. These are all one-off short trips of 2-3 km at <30 kmph and strapped down by ultra strong elastic custom ropes.

One great point with the middle row captains seats is that even long loads are a breeze, I.e. even if there are occupants.

I test drove XL6 recently and the sales guy mentioned about an accessory - a seat that fits in between the two captain seats in 2nd row to make it a 7 seater. Has anyone used it? Is it recommended? Also any news on the upgrade for XL6 ? Is XL7 coming to India anytime soon?

I would not recommend it at all. There is no robust way to tether the accessory in place, and the occupant would not be able to wear a seatbelt as there is no provision for one.

In other news, fitted the JK Tyres Treel 5 set pack for a grand total of Rs.1,150 plus fitting charges of ~ Rs.1,100.

Impressed with it; set the spare tyre pressure to 40 psi so that it lasts longer. Updated the parameters accordingly in the Treel app to avoid the disparity with the other 4 tyre pressures

Have usually seen such increases in sustained highway drives, but in all 4 tyres.

Maybe a silly question but I’ve noticed that when moving from Park to Drive, the reversing lights briefly flash as the gear lever moves through Reverse. Is this normal?

Noticed it when my driver left with my kiddo this morning; initially thought it was because he wasn’t pressing the safety lock button, but we checked later when re returned, and it does flash briefly.

Anything to worry about?

The reversing lights light up when the gear selector is engaged in the R position. This is to signal to others that the vehicle is in reverse. This is done by means of a positional switch/sensor at the R position which gets actuated wherever the lever passes through it. Therefore, even while moving to D, when you pass through R, the sensor actuates as designed. Because the gear selector is only passing (and not staying there), the lights light up momentarily only. It is perfectly normal and happens in every single automatic car. You can observe this in traffic signals.

I got my XL6 a couple of months back and feel the brakes to the grossly inadequate to the extent of getting really scary as it does not stop promptly and feels rubbery.

Earlier I thought this to be ABS ESP etc. as I came from an i20 which had very sharp brakes, but then I saw this issue by many others too.

Please suggest if anyone else too face something like this and what is the solution. I literally felt that I could not brake in time a couple of instances and it's very scary.

Is it like this on all XL6s, or is this due to ABS etc., or due to rear drum brakes?

XL6 weighs about 1250 kgs and i20 about 1050 kg.

So, the braking distance of heavier car will be longer.

It is possible that your expectation of 120 braking distance is causing you to underestimate the time to apply brakes.

But get it checked at Nexa Service Centre anyways to be sure that the brakes are working as expected.

More braking force (55-70%) is expended in the front wheels which cause increase in temperature.

In city start-stop driving we tend to use the brakes more frequently. Hence front wheels heat up more.

However, in highway driving, wheel temperature rise is more due to rubber on road friction. Hence all wheels heat up uniformly.

At least, that is what I think!

Gave the XL6 for it's third free (and first proper oil change) service today at 14 months @ 7.5K km.

Refused wheel alignment / balancing (already done at 5K km when I fitted the Treel TPMS kit) and the dry wash. Components changed were the oil filter, drain plug, a gasket and 3.3 litres of Ecstar oil.

All this for the princely sum of 1,700 with the labour being free. There is a reason Maruti is the King!
