I would like to hear how the White Thar actually looks in person. |
So, I checked it out myself both Bronze and White here are the pics.
So my opinion on the White thar is that it is going to polarize the Thar fans - some are going to love it and others will not be able to stand it. Something similar to what happened in case of 2nd Gen Honda City in 2003.
So I feel we should wait and watch how the public reacts to it.
For me I would say that its not that great in its current state, it definitely needs work like blacked out head and tail lamps, Wrangler style grill, modified headlamps and then it will look more like a lifestyle car rather than a police car (how it looks right now).

I think the White Thar with just a black JK/JL grill will make all the difference, go from pretty much boring and plain to killer!

Where were the pics taken?
I agree, white looks somewhat empty, like something missing.
Some black additions will fix that.

I got the my Thar RWD delivered finally. Received the delivery on 10th March. I was advised by a Mahindra veteran that you won't get the delivery without 'fighting out' the dealer. Had to create pressure on them from mid Feb in terms which may not sound civic in modern terms. |
Congratulations on your new ride old_miles. Yes, Being in touch with your Dealer will make sure you are in priority line. However, As per my understanding Mahindra is also not sending enough RWDs to dealers.
Congratulations. I am taking delivery of my Thar on Wednesday. I sent a message to my dealer once, no use. I emailed mahindea customer service once, they said April. My car arrived this Thursday. I don't think this pressure tactic works. Dealer can prioritize your delivery only if cancellations happen.

My dealer still has no clue about when the billing will resume for him.:Frustrati

There are perks of this look, especially when you are out of state. :)

Are there sill people on this forum who booked on 9th Jan and still clueless about the delivery. I booked RWD LX NAP BLACK on 09.01.23 at 4:45 pm, neither I can track nor have any expected date from Mahindra customer care. |
I also booked on 9th Jan and as I could see the delivery date it’s tentatively during May-June period

Deliveries are happening a cool 2 months before tentative delivery date or period. Mine was stated for April-May and i am taking delivery tomorrow. You will get your Thar soon.
Is the Petrol stallion engine a new one? How reliable will it be in the long run? Also the Thar seems to have a hydraulic power steering. Kindly correct me if I am wrong. Will the steering components be reliable considering the Thar will not be gently driven on smooth tarmac roads many times. One more, is the temperature gauge not available in the instrument cluster?
Thanks.

The Petrol MStallion engine is an excellent one. Highly responsive, well tuned and powerful. Its a solid 2 litre 150horsepower turbo petrol unit which has a Garrett Turbo charger. It comes with either a manual or a 6 speed torque converter AT ‘Box which is also a gem. This engine is tuned for performance and enjoyment of instant linear power delivery rather than frugality.
See below youtube video of Hormazd Sorabjee’s views on this engine.
https://youtu.be/UgLclu8OjOo
I m using the 4x4 Thar with an AT ‘Box and with this engine since Feb 2021 and can only sing its praises (except for the fuel efficiency which is well, not great).
The Hydraulic power steering is a proven technology and has been in use for absolutely ages. It has seen service in multiple Mahindra vehicles and is Reliable, competent, reassuringly solid and well-weighted. Absolutely Unlike the ‘way-too-light’ Electronic Power Steering on many cars.
In my 4x4 Thar the Temp Gauge is very much there on the Electronic Instrument Cluster on the Nacelle in front of me, when viewed through the spokes of the steering wheel. The temperature appears on the left in the form of a bar. See picture.
