Hi MC@1986, I have got a pair of custom made brackets for having the flexibility of removing my trifold tonneau cover, whenever I want. Please find the pictures attached of the same.

Toyota Hilux, whats Toyota cooking

Hi Fellows,

Most of you must be aware that presently Toyota is offering very heavy discounts on Toyota Hilux across the country, only varying in quantum of the discount depending on the different states.

What's the reason behind it. Is it just the case of inventory management or there is something more.
We know that Hilux despite a high price has many features missing presently, available in two categories lower vehicles. The prominent among them, to me, are missing ADAS, paddle shifters et al. There are some design weaknesses too like, back seat's almost vertical alignment to our bottoms, which makes life extra difficult to the backbenchers, to what's natural to such vehicles built for carrying loads in the back bay.
Toyota might be readying the Hilux for the next generation with the introduction of hybrid power management.
So what do you think,is it the right time to take a dip in the offering by the Toyota, of one of its legendary vehicles, made possible by the discount on offer.

regards
Fawad

@Mods. Please place it in the appropriate category if it's in the wrong one.

Re: Toyota Hilux, whats Toyota cooking

More likely the Hilux is going to be discontinued due to poor sales and they are clearing inventory.

Yes, there will be a new gen Hilux but I doubt they will bring it to India considering the reception the current one got. The timing was off, the pricing was off.

I am not sure about the future but Hilux, post discount has been doing decent 250-300 units a month interms of sales. That's roughly same/more than Gloster which is a mainstream SUV. The discounts have been ongoing since a year now and Toyota has imported 2024 kits too. The mild hybrid has been launched, might come to our shores once Fortuner gets the same.

With May sales added, the Hilux has been doing an average of nearly 300 units per month in the last 6 months. That is higher than the total sales of some companies surviving on a lone model.

Guess it is here to stay, considering that the Camry which does far less is still on sale. The sales figure would have far better if they had launched it as proper Hilux, instead of just as a lifestyle product.

ofcourse, it is doubtful whether the next gen would make it to India, considering the next gen would be more expensive and Toyota has already launch the cheaper Champ in other markets.

Thanks for the snaps. Super cool idea.

Which brand is the tri fold cover? Is that also stock and does the bracket cause any rattling of the cover?

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

Has any one recently enquired about the offers running on Hilux? I am told by a Delhi based friend that upto 12-13L discount is available and it brings the top end model to roughly about 32-33L on road. This is super deal!! Your thoughts/experience please.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

Discounts of around 11 lakh are still on offer. You need to cast an extensive net and speak to multiple dealers. Focus on tier 2 cities.

Any price south of 35 lakhs on road is great for Hilux, providing your use-case(s) fit(s) Hilux.

It is not just the initial cost, but also the low cost for routine maintenance together with relatively long interval (10,000 km/one year) between services, that makes Hilux so attractive.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

Love the halogen units in my Hilux. During my recent drive, it was raining quite heavily and found the headlamps quite good. I was considering to replace these with some LED but after my drive in rains, have decided retain stock halogen units.

Re: Toyota Hilux Review

Visited a showroom today in kerala. Discount of 10 lakhs standard on all models. Might increase the discount if you can haggle. Dealer admits lack of demand for the vehicle since its a niche vehicle.

Lovely beast you possess Sir! The best spec of HILUX in India IMHO. Reminds me of my Hilux Pickup that I used while being employed as an EPC Project Manager in Kenya. Same plain white colour, no fancy chrome embellishments or luxury features. A pure, rubber and plastic smelling interior, the gear lever shaking like it went crazy on startup and the drivetrain? Just a 2wd mated to the 2.4 Diesel engine Tough as nails and no nonsense. I don't even slow down for speed breakers or no road patches. I know we don't get poverty spec HILUX like that here in India, but according to me, the Top End Hilux is trying too hard to mimic the Fortuner. At least they could've given a different design to the wheels.

Thank you. I was looking for something very basic truck with 4WD, AC, Power steering and airbags. Would have picked up a barebones Hilux, but the standard variant came with juicy discount which was no brainer. The only thing i wish the hilux didn't have is the DPF. 15K on ODO, it hasn't been bothering much but definitely something that reduces the ability of this truck.
