Re: 2023 Hyundai Verna Review

I drove more than 500 km post the ECU map update by Hyundai. The car did feel more powerful, but there was very good difference when I filled XP 95, the difference with higher octane was not this much with previous stock map. I was sure the car was making more power. BHPian blackbandit had dynoed his stock car ( not the updated map) and it made 142 HP at wheels. My car did 156 HP at wheels , thanks to updated stock map. We also logged various parameters and the turbo boost was higher in my car. Hyundai update is like stage 0.5 remap.

I got my car tuned by Wolf, mission 200 + HP haha. More details will be posted soon.

Re: 2023 Hyundai Verna Review

I had given my car for development at Engineering Exponent. Collaborating with Dr. Naren and the team at Wolf the car was able to make 211 BHP at crank and 196 WHP. This is a map that is still in test and requires 100 Octane fuel to extract everything out of it and would not be suitable for regular driving. Ive run the 100 Octane map for more than 100Kms so far and face no issues in regular driving conditions and quick bursts of high speed runs. However Dr. Naren did note that the IAT gets pretty high when the car is on full throttle on full load conditions and hence more testing and logging would be required and probably hardware upgrades as well to run this more safely.

Stock vs WHP vs BHP Graph on dyno.

Haha, so there is more performance to be found with higher octane fuel in that case.

Waiting to hear more on this.

Great news. With the IAT would that be because if insufficient airflow?
I assume the ECM will cut back on engine output once IAT gets above threshold. Not sure if you have already experienced or if its within thresholds atm. Anyways keep us updated.

Re: 2023 Hyundai Verna Review

Another unfortunate incident with my Verna

Was aghast to find this dent 2 days ago on the bonnet. My best guess is that it has been hit by a door of a goods van while parked on the roadside outside office.

What's the best solution? Should I get the denting painting done under insurance? I have already claimed insurance once, so I'm anyway losing out on the no claims bonus. It's at such a visible place that cannot even ignore it. Suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Re: 2023 Hyundai Verna Review

Wow, great stuff. I couldn't help but notice the drop in power post 4k rpm. I think, just like you said, more tinkering with the ECU is needed. Feels like the car is not getting enough fuel in higher RPMs, night be a fuel map tuning issue.

Re: 2023 Hyundai Verna Review

Rattle sound from dashboard / glove box area

There seems to be a rattling sound from the dashboard that I am getting since last 2 weeks on my SXO DCT Verna. Glovebox does not have anything that can cause the rattling sound. I have the annual service due in 1st week of October anyway and will ask the Hyundai ASS to check it out. But it is quite irritating in an otherwise EV like quiet cabin. I am wondering if any of you might have heard this rattle and any suggestions on how to sort it.

I would say to get it touched up with a brush and live with it.

Some idiot decided to sit on the bonnet of my car and it has 3 dents near the logo now, I have kept the car in pristine condition and scratchless in 8 months of ownership so I know it hurts to see these little annoyances when you have nothing to do with it, but claiming insurance or even getting it repainted doesn't seem like a good idea for such small things, you lose the originality of the car.

Answering my question myself . I checked with Hyundai ASS and this is where they beat almost all other brands hands down! It turns out that goggles were causing the issue in the dashboard. Since I removed them its back to EV nature! SA came promptly and then drove the car with me and we did not spot any sound after that. Just a little miffed that Goggles can cause sounds, never had those sounds in the Skoda Rapid for 10 years, but that had a different sound -- a throaty 1.6 diesel engine that would seep in, and the Verna engine is way too refined in that sense! You win some and lose some I guess, but I am back to being a happy Verna customer.

Lovely.

I started getting a rattling sound when driving over very rough roads. The sort of road where the tar is still there but the medium holding it has washed out. So it is a sort of a rough sand paper kind of surface.

Was planning to go to the service station but had been putting it off because I really did not want to rip open the steering and dashboard.

But turns out the noise is coming from the roof area.

When I put my hand on the sun visor, the sound immediately goes away.

I think tucking in the cable for the dashcam might have something to do with it.

The EV like silence of the cabin makes all these sounds seem much worse than they actually are!

Totally agree! It spoils us to a great extent.

I saw this post in Instagram about the new bolt-on intercooler and I guess this should help with the IAT on full throttle. Stellar Turbo is claiming a WHP increase of 10HP on stock map with this intercooler.

The new intercooler by stellar turbos has been developed using my car and the dyno figures are from my vehicle as well. Will post more details once we are done with the stage 2 build.

Curious about what an addition of 1.5 CRDI would have done to the sales number of verna.
