Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

Did a quick test drive of Skoda Kylaq manual prestige variant from S7 cars Erode. The sales representative was kind enough to allow a 20 km test drive.

The car is very responsive and I got used to car instantly. The bucket seat seat hugs you and is very comfortable. The car allows you to drop to low speed and get going even at 3rd gear without dropping a gear. The sporty sound from the engine is enjoyable when accelerating from 2nd and 3rd gears. The steering feedback is good and suspension setup is good, it absorbs potholes and rough roads comfortably.

The rear seat space is ok and 2 adults can be seated comfortably since there is also a rear ac vent and a small hump near the floor board. The sales representative mentioned that the dashboard material used doesn't give a plastic smell when parked under hot sun.

Skoda has a got a winner and this car will turn the tide for Skoda VW group in India. I would recommend this car for folks looking to purchase their first car or customers planning to upgrade from hatchback segment.

For classic and signature variants the waiting period is 3 months. For the signature + and prestige variant the waiting period is around 1 month. The reason told by sales rep is that Skoda prioritizes higher variants production rather than low variants hence the longer waiting time for lower variants.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

After a long time, we see a Skoda entering in the 'Top 25 Cars sold in a month' for April 2025.

Great to see Skoda-VW selling 10k cars a month due to Kylaq's success. VW needs to follow the success story of Kylaq to launch a sibling as well, more volumes has never hurt any brand. Congrats to the owners here as well.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

The price list I have received for Kylaq
I was told for this month there is no corporate discount or any other form of discount from Skoda.
Is that the case with other Skoda dealers elsewhere?

I agree with you, though the Kushaq is just another offering in the 4m+ segment, Kylaq that is based on the Kushaq is the top choice in the sub 4m segment (rear camera and AC performance notwithstanding! hope Skoda fixes this soon), I hope Skoda manages to sustain the momentum, I am not sure why there is so much of waiting for a car that sells only 5-7K a month, Skoda needs to roll out cars quicker, the more the car is seen, the more they sell, this has been the car buying pattern in our country and Skoda needs to catch up fast!

I really hope Skoda works on getting more models, the talk of a bigger Kushaq on a different platform to match the Creta size is very much a necessity now, Skoda cannot be a one car wonder, it needs at least 2-3 successful models and total volumes of at least 10-12K a month to make a mark.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

I am also looking to book a signature AT variant soon and am worried about the waiting period. Skoda can look at progressively increasing the capacities to make it happen esp. for Signature (not that I am booking it :(+), but this is the most VFM variant with most of the necessary bells and whistles-a good music system, rear camera and dash cam are the only additional things required).

Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

Skoda Kylaq Dual Tone Horn DIY Upgrade

Hey, respected members! Back again with a simple DIY that I did on my Skoda Kylaq (review impending), involving changing the horn from the feeble monotone to the one Skoda provides for the Kushaq OTC.

A big thanks to @jeganatu for taking the charge (link (Skoda Kylaq Review)), and as required, I ordered the splitter from this link: https://durvient.com/vw-skoda-audi-h...iz-ctNt1RBxpQp (not affiliated).
Once received, the DIY was set in motion.

The result:

Tools and items required:
  1. Torx Star key (T30)
    Skoda Kylaq Review-20250512_185900.jpg

  2. Skoda Kushaq dual trumpet horn
    Skoda Kylaq Review-20250513_184946.jpg
    Skoda Kylaq Review-20250429_224601.jpg

  3. Durvient splitter for VW/Skoda
    Skoda Kylaq Review-20250429_224853.jpg

  4. Electrical insulation tape
  5. Wrench
  6. Screwdriver
  7. Arm muscle
  8. Patience

Steps:
  • Open the hood. Remove the 4 screws using the star key and the 6 push-pin plastic rivets of the cover.
    Skoda Kylaq Review-20250506_143850.jpg
  • Remove the second cover beneath the first one by removing the 2 push-pin plastic rivets first, and pushing the cover towards the grill, in the direction of the arrows.
    Skoda Kylaq Review-20250512_174704.jpg
  • This under-cover (no pun intended) has 4 locks holding it in place with the chassis member. That's why IT IS IMPORTANT TO PUSH IT towards the grill to remove it. Otherwise, in the process you might end up breaking the locks, like I did

(the location of the 4 locks, of which I broke 3)

    Skoda Kylaq Review-20250512_180958.jpg
(images showing the lower cover clasped to the chassis member inside the grill)
  • Once the cover is removed, the horn becomes visible. Remove it by unscrewing the middle screw (tight space; least invasive method).
    Skoda Kylaq Review-20250512_182715.jpg
  • Remove the horn by pushing clip of the connector outwards (try this beforehand with your Durvient harness), and recover the horn as pictured:
    Skoda Kylaq Review-20250512_185836.jpg
    (cheap)
  • Use electrical tape to insulate the ends and edges (can't believe the ₹1800 harness has such appalling quality):
    Skoda Kylaq Review-20250512_183525.jpg
    Skoda Kylaq Review-20250512_183022.jpg
  • Attach the male end of the harness to the supply, the two female ends to the horns, and screw them back in place of the original horn using the one, central screw. The space is at a premium, so do take care while screwing.
Secure the excess harness with zip ties:

Undo the undressing of the covers, close the hood, and voila! Now those pesky 3-wheelers will surely give you your space on the road. Afterall, now your car doesn't sound like one while beeping!

Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

Happened to see Kylaq in a mall for display and really liked it. Seriously feel like replacing my 3.5 years old i20 with it as my city beater. But trying hard to resist the impulsive decision as my plan was to replace it with an EV as I don’t want 2 turbo petrol at home. Skoda has definitely got a winner here.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

I have some questions regarding Kylaq, which I am considering to buy.
  1. Is it possible to add reverse camera in the Signature trim, which comes with the small touchscreen?
  2. How much is it important to fuel 95 octane for the engine? I have a decent running of about 1000-1500 kms a month, and I believe it would add up to my running costs.
  3. Is it better to wait for sometime till the festive season - Navratri, Diwali or the year end in the hope for discounts? Knowing the history of Skoda cars, they do come up with such sales.

Oh, you almost gave me a scare! That's a keen eye that you have!
Just ran down the stairs to check if it was low. Confirmed with the manual that it is sufficient, and within the specified range, which is narrow by the way. Attaching a picture of the manual.
The reservoir-half-empty is, in fact, kept that way due to the expansion of the coolant when it is heated under engine load. Low levels do show up on the dash as warning symbols.

And yes, I will be going through the complete manual now, seeing how rustic my knowledge has become.
P.S. There was also a minute, but expensive, observation that I made during this little project of mine, which I will be sharing in a review, soon.

Re: Skoda Kylaq Review

Kylaq owners, how is the air conditioning performance, is it comparable to Marutis & Tatas or still underwhelming like the one in Kushaq/Slavia?

One thing I can say, for my family, the AC in Slavia feels sufficiently chilling..Set the temperature to 24C with fan at level 4 or 5, and the cabin will cool down in 5 minutes. The outside temperature in Kolkata currently is 37-40C . We have the AC update done, but before that also it was great. And there is no loss of cooling at low RPM either. So if you are evaluating Kylaq, evaluate it on the basis of space or service cost, but not AC.
