Most of maruti's cars are handed over to customers in Valet mode, and the immobiliser and auto clo system needs to be activated by the procedures mentioned in the Nippon manual.

I did the activation a few days back and feel really confident now. But the next visit to the service centre will seen me getting the reverse gear lock installed.

iCATS in the keys function as separate immobilizers and Nippon security system have a separate immobilizer. Both work independently. Irrespective of whether Nippon is in Valet mode or not the car can't be driven off without the ignition keys made for that specific car.

Can you tell me how to get duplicate keys with immobiliser with electronic chips in Bangalore.Since I loose keys very often and I dread the price of replaceing keys.

I dont mind spending 250-300 bucks, dont know who does it in bangalore

Thanks for the post. LoJack is a SUPERB anti-theft solution. I was entirely sold on the product (when in the States) and lose count of how many family members / friends I've convinced on Lojack.

If only, we could have a similar product in India. Unfortunately, our infrastructure levels (including that of the Police) will negate any value that Lojack offers.

What car? Simply remove the main fuse. Ignition won't work without it.

+1 to that. What on earth is an "israeli" gear lock? Please post some pictures.

AFAIK, key with embedded chip cannot be duplicated locally. You have to approach the manufacturer through the dealer with the electronic and mechanical codes and proof of ownership to get duplicate key.

Has anyone tried this?

1. Make a duplicate key for a key with immobiliser.
2. Use the duplicate key in the ignition with the original key with immobiliser key near to it.
3. Try starting the engine.

Will the car start?

:OT And I sincerely hope Windows is not the OEM OS. I dread a situation where you have to enter the pass code and Voila...BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH.

Coming back to topic, I sincerely thank this thread to motivate me for installing the Car Security product. I have started with the Gear Lock and may upgrade the Car Security System to one with the immobilizer.

Anyone got any idea, if we can exchange or upgrade our exisiting security system? Right now the one I have is more or less working only as a remote Car opening device.

I have seen cars with 0-9 numpads on their doors in US (Lincolns/Fords). Could it be the same thing you are talking about?

Just last weekend on Friday night we parked in a public car park. As we
drove away I noticed a sticker on the rear window of the car. When I took it
off (after I got home), it was a receipt for petrol. Luckily my friend had
told me not to stop, as it could be someone waiting for me to get out of the
car. Then we received this email yesterday.

WARNING FROM POLICE
THIS APPLIES TO BOTH WOMEN AND MEN
BEWARE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE.
NEW WAY TO DO CAR-JACKINGS. (NOT A JOKE).

Heads up everyone! Please keep this circulating. You walk across the car
park, unlock your car and get inside. You start the engine and put it into
Reverse.

When you look into the rear-view mirror to back out of your space, you
notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear screen. So you stop,
and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is), because
it is obstructing your view. Then when you reach the back of your car, is
when the car-jackers appear out of nowhere. They jump in and take off. They
practically run you over as they speed off.

And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car. So now the
car-jacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. Your
home and your whole identity are compromised!

BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED.

If you see a piece of paper stuck to the back window, lock your doors and
just drive away. Remove the paper later. And be thankful that you read this
e-mail. I hope you will forward this to friends and family, especially to
women. A purse contains all kinds of personal information and identification
documents, and you certainly do NOT want this to fall into the wrong hands.

I used to remove the cap inside the distributor (1996 M800) when it used to be parked on street in Bangalore a few years ago. It takes hardly 30 seconds, and no thief would bring that thing to steal the car! Not many would even make out why the car doesn't start!

scary indeed. I too received this mail sometime back. But has anyone known to us actually been carjacked this way?
My habit calls that I remove and pocket the key everytime i leave the car - just might save me someday!

I follow the practice too, even while opening the gate to my society compound since we do not have a guard.:thumbs up

Somebody had told me eraly on in life that " Always give a second thought to events , and always have "Situational Awareness" - be aware of your surroundings and what you are doing or what is happening around you.

Still follow it. It is always to drive away from your parking lot and go a KM away and then look at the paper on your rear screen or that annoying sound all of a sudden in the bonnet.
