Shreeram, sorry , that is not the same car, as the one in your picture has running boards while the car that I have does not.

Both cars are different. Other than the running boards you can compare both on this image and notice different types of air inlets/scoops which I have circled in red.
1946 Ford Anglia Restoration-0.jpg

The other thing is, the smallfordspares and the FSOC websites shows that the car on the left is not a 1946 but a Anglia E494A (1949–1953). The earlier models Anglia being the E04A (1939-41 & 1945–48)

Shreeram

Nothing happened to the running boards of my car, they were never there to start with.

Deutscheafrikar is correct, the cars are different.

The picture that you have is most probably a Ford '7' with the front grill of the E494 Anglia. And the bumpers of the E494A or E93A (Prefect). The top of the car looks more like the Ford '7' and hence my opinion.

Like stated in the previous post the E494A Anglia was produce from 1948-53. My car is a Ford E493 O A/B and has a 10hp engine as against the 8hp on the E494A. These were the export versions of the E494A and came with a lot of the trim and interiors of the E93A Prefect including the dashboard.Although the dates do not match the RC book says 1946.

Now comming back to the running boards, SOME of the Ford 7 and E04A Anglia's came with the running board for the Deluxe versions. Later you could order the running board as an option for the price of 10 pounds. But the E494A did not come with them.

All information I have on the car is from a book called " English and Australian SMALL FORD Recognition and Restoration"

On another note, I took my car for the MY TVS Heritage Rally here last Sunday and won the prize for "Car in the Most Original Condition 1941-60"

Congrats about the prize
I think I noticed Dussey mention it on the other thread.
Anglia "E493A" it is, I some how missed considering the 1172 cc engine.
Does the RC book state year of manufacture as 1946 or is the date of registration some time in 1946.
The picture Shreeram has posted seems to have the wiper mechanism below the glass and not above like the earlier Fords
Cheers

The year of manufacture shows 1946.

With regards to the types of small fords, there were quite a few as per the book I have. Like the ambassador , they seemed to have played around with front grills a bit , moved the wipers up and down, changed the dashboard, added a boot , moved position of the trafficators between the 1930 's to 1950's ( popular), without really changing the basic car. Then there were the Australian version of the cars which had their slight differences. However with the running boards, I suspect the other car is most probably an earlier version to the E494A.

Thanks CAC444,

Yes the car has been running well, I take it out for a spin every weekend. With the rains arriving in Chennai and the roads getting washed away as usual I will not be able to take it out much for a while.
