Duck?? Never heard of that brand. Or was it an autocorrect for Duco?
Jokes apart, I feel for a restoration of this 'standard', duco would no longer do justice!

Thanks, and most definitely looking forward to touring. This being a bigger car with a 2 litre engine I'm hoping will be more enjoyable on highway runs.

Paint is 2K.

Re: 1958 Standard Vanguard Phase III - Restoration

Very High standard of restoration I can see.
And yes! it surely is coming up to be a Cartier contender too.
Another rare Classic in your stable Karl.
Way to go!

Re: 1958 Standard Vanguard Phase III - Restoration

December 19th 2016

Small but steady updates.

I got the car with just 1 hubap - managed to get 2 good condition ones on eBay which we recently rechromed, and 2 original ones locally - its just that I can't find those now Luckily managed to score some local repros which will do the job for now.

The car was missing one ash tray (the right side). Luckily the left side unit was there, and a pair were cast and being finished.

All body and dash ancillaries have now been painted, and will be fitted shortly.

Managed some more spares online - including the ash tray that we just cast . Also one more door handle, so now just short of one. Spare knobs and meters will always be useful.

The car is now entering the final stages of fitting. Hope to have it ready next month and to bring her home for the season.

And just for fun managed to bag this lovely tiny little Corgi model in a somewhat similar colour too. Let's see if we can mount it on the dash.

December 31st 2016

More updates.

A beautiful set of number plates was made - I think they've turned out great, and will add tremendously to the overall get-up of the car.

The plates look amazing. Wanna share the costs?

Are the rims always body colored for Coorgi or you have done it that way? Wont an offset color look better?

The corgi model needs a paint job, maybe you can paint it in the same color of the car.

Re: 1958 Standard Vanguard Phase III - Restoration

Karl,

The car is really coming up nicely.

The unpainted corgi model is also a delight, leave it as it is.

Are you taking her to Cartier???

I think the wheels on all Corgi models of this size were generic silver discs. For the actual car I surmise that wheels were body coloured - atleast for the Indian cars. Subject to correction.

Of course I did think of painting it in the same colour, but its close enough, I'd much prefer leaving it as it is. Preservation class

Thanks - I am very pleased with the way she is coming up. I will just be a visitor at Cartier, though hope to get her home in time for the Bombay event.

More progress, the wiring is completed, most fitting completed, and glove boxes being fabricated

We got lucky by finding an original NOS rear view mirror online.

Its coming along nicely.

Are you planning to renew the registration of the car or planning on keeping it as a "period exhibit" ?

Pardon my question - but your efforts to get "period number plate" prompted it. I had gotten a typical "Calcutta plate" done for my Amby in 1982, which quickly became redundant in one of the "drives" by Kerala Police to get people write the numbers as prescribed in the India MVA then.

I don't think the plate in question is compliant ?

Best Regards & Drive Safe

Ram
