It is indeed an early Standard 8. I see it every other day

It is characterized by a fixed boot, it doesnt open. There is only a slot for the spare wheel. The earliest cars had sliding windows too.

Karl thanks for correcting me. Never knew that there was something like a Standard 8. Yes, the older Standard cars with this bodyshell had no chrome grill and had sliding windows. Great to know that these were Standard 8's.

Sorry anjan, this car's not a Super 10 but very much an early "8" model, with an 803cc engine. The bonnet badge has an "8" on it and also having seen the rear it doesnt have the bootlid like the normal 10 but just a flap with a small boot area, similar to this car (although this is a "super 8", with non-sliding windows)

Edit: Karl, just seen your post! Thanks for helping with the inputs!

I think you had a pic. of the rear as well? I did but unfortunately lost all my old pics. from my PC once!

Thanks Stanher. I can recollect this model called standard 8 -it looks like the economy version of the Super 10. I have seen the stepney compartment of these cars which was below the luggage boot.the stepney compartment used to open like the 1940's Ford Prefect's and housed the number plate. Nice addition to my knowledge.

Sorry for the delayed reply! 'just came across this thread again.
Any updates on this car??
Has it been rescued? Do keep us posted!

Aside, one interesting fact about this model- the boot is accessible only from the inside of the car, by tilting the rear seat forward- very uncomfy I imagine!

Welcome aboard, Zoeb!!

Good to have another standard car enthusiast aboard!

Do you own the standard 8 you restored? If so, could we have some pics.? You could post them in the 'standard cars' thread here. I understand there are fewer of these cars in India, compared to the 10, Pennant etc.
This 8 however, is in Pune, not Hyd.- if it was here, I would've grabbed it by now I guess!

the car is very good with the body line right now as it looks... you will really not have much difficulty in restoring it...

Zoeb, I must hand it to you! You are one keen and brave standard enthusiast!!

I'm glad I'm not alone afterall!

I suggest you also let your car be known to the Standard motor club, UK.

Thank you for your encouraging words- yes, should the car be taken by none else, and all other things in order, I would like to pick it up.

There have been no updates since, from the thread starter who'd first mentioned that he himself'd be picking up the car. So I don't know the current status of the car, and how to go about it.
