The speedometer is not original mark I but the one from 64 to 66 mark II and is of Autometer make. See this is in KMPH and not MPH. During 64 to 66 this type of Autometer make meters and Yenkay make were OEs.

Hi As requested, I am uploading the pics of my Mark II and its interiors.

Karl and Sujith loved viewing the Amby pictures.They are simply nostalgia revived! Am convinced after seeing the cars that there still are many really good and pristine examples of old Ambys still surviving.

Nice car! Where is it based now btw? It seems to be a Mysore regn.

Also are the small 3 warning lights cluster on the dash original to these Ambys? Because they had come on Heralds and Gazels too. Any chance of still finding these?

Yes it is a Mysore registration (i think year is 1964/65). Has been in our family ever since. belonged to my grandad, transferred to my dad and now to me.

About the 3 warning lights - really dont know dude. Its original fitment on my car. Nothing on the car has ever been removed or retrofitted. It still does about 20 km a month to office and back in Gurgaon

There is no other car which rules my heart like she does dude. Half a crank to start the car (still)

Great car and very nicely maintained. This is what I aim for my Amby Mark II restoration.

You are lucky to have this car, do always preserve this car.

Was the car was later painted black or came in black color ?

These 3 warning light clusters were introduced in the later half of 1965 after the Smiths/Autometer phase with the central clock for the Amby was gone.The meters were of Yenkay make.These continued till 1968 or so when the meters were reduced to two only and the warning light cluster was increased to four-the rectangular configuration in a chrome plated recatngular frame.
The dash is very original for this car. Really seeing one after a long, long time.

Well our family did own one, a 1972 model bought from a High Court judge. Very well maintained, served us well. I learnt my driving in that car, as well as basic automobile mechanicals by watching mechanic chachas doing their thing on the car (which was as often as once a week :)) Easy classic to live with, very very comfy. Just dont expect it to be start-and-go like a modern car.

Shasun you car is simple and superb!! don't know why I fell in love with her there is something special. Keep her with you as you have a responsibility to pass it on to your next gen as it came to you. all the best of luck friend.

She really is a beaut, is all the paint original? Try and catch a hold of the rear windscreen trim thats missing. And do fit a nicer set of period style numberplates please.:) You could even repaint the current ones in 'stencil' style, so common for south cars of the time.

My Son has already laid claim to it. Have received many offers fromaficionados especially around the Kotla area in Delhi for it. But then you dont sell the family silver, do you?

1) yes the paint is original
2)The only reason the number plate stays that way is because my Grandad handpainted the number plates when the colors were changed from Black to White. Sentimental reasons!
3)Checked the date of registration - 31st May 1965.

Rear windscreen trim?

I apologise - the plates remain as they are!

The front and rear windscreen rubbers have a groove in them, in which a steel/aluminium garnish/trim is fitted. It is present in the front of your car, but missing in the rear.

Not removed by me. Must have been done by my grandad. I must replace them if so.

Most of what he says is agreeable but for the year 1948 "BEFORE" our Independence, when he says the Ambassador was introduced.And is 1948 before or after our Independence? Serious gaffe by this Chris who has not done a good research!:Shockked:
Actually its 1954 for the Morris Oxford Series III in the U.K. and world market and 1958 for the Ambassador in India.
