A new kinda design on the Ambassador.

Sorry to say but I'd post this in the W&W thread.

Regarding the registration, it's a mid-80s no. May be the car is re-registered.

What is that fascination with nets on the body?! And to me the front end seems to busy and cluttered. To be honest the owner has used computer-aid to destroy a beautiful car.

Must go to the W&W thread.

True, the 1960's registrations are KL _ and not KR _. As you say it may have been re-registered or else sometimes the old cars do not have RC/TC books, that might have led the present owner to believe its a 1964 model.:)

I had the first thought of posting it in the W a W thread, but the digits "1964" made me quite kind and considerate towards the car. Therefore the pictures were posted here.
The nets are a mystery ! :)

Is the bonnet stock? The central hump seems to be too tall to be stock.

He likes to go fishing I guess or collects insects that hot the front-end while driving around.

Ingenuity definitely it is !:)
The fit and finish is quite good. Guess HM honchos may take notice seeing these pictures, particularly the front treatment and the interiors.
It is a 1964 model according to the owner.

The colour Oxford Blue was quite common for the older Ambassadors (we call them Mark I). This shade was in vogue after a hiatus, back in 1968 (first appearance in Mark II) and lasted till 1972 or so. It came back with the Mark 4 in the early 1980's.

I am reposting some photographs of JayD's ambassador that he was kind enough to post for me on another thread in T-Bhp. I saw it two years back when it was getting ready. The end result is simply fantastic. He is an absolute perfectionist and one can expect nothing less from him..

That is real beauty!!
I have a 1965 mark-II and looking for a quote to restore and good hands to take care.
Any suggestions or contacts where I can go in bangalore pls..

An older Kolkata Ambassador from the 1980's, facelifted and fitted with a 1500 DSL engine. It also displays a Euro II sticker. In the 1980's, it was almost impossible to buy a diesel Ambassador, unless it was meant for taxi use or else manipulations were done on the mode of use or ownership.

WNC means circa 1987 (may be June-July).

But why was it difficult to buy a diesel Ambassador for private use? Rule by Government of Bengal or Tax issues?
