Our 1982 Mark 4 - petrol did not have that as Standard (nor did we fit one). Dashboard a and special upholstery and the Floor Carpet (in addition to the standard rubber one) steel beading on Windscreen & Rear Glass gourmet beadings and thin white wall tyres were the difference in our car from the standard (as far as I can recall).

We had several mark 4 Ambassadors, from the earliest, with the front bumpers only curving upto the fenders leaving the grill area unprotected, till the last lot, rebadged as the Nova.

To my recollection, we were never offered a Deluxe badged option. Actually a deluxe badge would have just added salt to the wounds:eek: The cars were quite bad, lack of options really being the only reason they were bought.

The older ones, upto the Mark 1, were decent cars. Post 1970, the downhill slide began.

The Deluxe option came around mid 1978. The Mark 3's were rolling out of the Uttarpara plant then. By Feb 1979, the Mark 4 came and the Deluxe option continued. There was no badging but the features especially on the dash (speedo plus four gauges) and upholstery were distinct.

Anjan, one more feature of Mark 4 Deluxe, I just remembered (from Bulldogji's post) was that Mark 4 Deluxe had full bumper in front not the corner ones that came in standard.

Hi Ram,

Actually the early ones had corner front bumpers, the later cars had the full bumpers in front. We had both types, but they were never sold as deluxe to us. Perhaps they thought of this new style in the beginning and decided to restore full bumpers keeping our driving habits in mind?:D

Taken in south India during my last visit in 2013.

There were more pics taken, but unfortunately, I dropped my note 2 and cracked the screen. To add insult to injury, corrupted the SD card when i transferred it to a stand-by phone. This was the sole one recovered after the bungling.

Yes Bulldogji, what you have said is true. The earlier Mark 4's introduced since Feb 1979 had only the front side bumpers, irrespective of whether it was Standard or Deluxe.Maybe HM thought that they will save on costs .
The newer cars could be fitted with the aftermarket middle member.
HM realised its folly but not before nearly two years had passed by. The middle member as OE was then introduced.

Spotted this Mark 2 yesterday near ITPL. Could not take more pictures as I was driving. The exterior looked original but the interior is not. The dash is changed.

This Mark II is perhaps a 1973/74 model. The colour appears to be original. This shade introduced around 1973 and was quite popular then.
The Mark II badge on the rear boot too indicates the early 1970's changeover by HM.

Spotted this yesterday at Forum Value Mall, Whitefield, Bangalore.

Dr Anjan's and Rudra Sen's rides get featured in today's TOI. Proud moment for all Tbhp Amby aficionados.

Hi All,

Found this Landmaster parked on the side of road for want of petrol last Saturday. could take only few photos before the driver, declined photos. I liked the way interiors were done. Engine was changed to latest petrol.

This is a latest Ambassador Grand/Classic which has been altered into a Landmaster using Landmaster's Bonnet, Front, and rear fenders for the exterior. The interiors seem to have the Avigo's instruments. The new Amby's MPFI engine, the engine bay, front quarter glass, Steering column assembly, Gear lever, wipers, wheels are left unchanged. The owner seems to have best of both worlds by retaining the Landmaster's looks with the improved performance of the newer Ambys. clap:
