Very interesting - it looks genuine indeed. This is only on the front seat back rest? What is left on the other parts? |
I will be back by 27th, detailed pictures after that.
Had been able to find almost all of the mechanical parts for my car. Sadly the Regzine for my car is not available here. I need to head to Mumbai.
By the way in my last post, I forgot to mention clearly that I will give you one fuse box.
Hello Manish! Whats the status of your car?? Is it still with the same tinker?

Yes it is with the tinker. Not able to go as too busy with official work. I am again on tour from tomorrow :Frustrati. So chances for updates are meager.
Sujith and me had been to your garage today. Tinker was busy with personal work-Son's engagement today. He said he will start the work tomorrow.
Are you visiting the garage tomorrow?

Wow... ,what a co-incidence, sad we did not meet. I too was there today evening at around 6:45pm:D
The boys there told me the tinker was not around since 3-4 days time, and probably by Monday the work on Manish's car will resume.
And another co -incedent, I was also there yesterday at around 7:00. Missed Pawan by few minutes and sujith and karthick by ...? Any way as told by my dear friends tinker is busy and so no work, which means delay in work of chassis systems (suspension, stering, differential and like). And overall delay of project. :Frustrati
In other devlopment, I am looking for a replacement head to start my reconditioning of engine. Have already bought high quality engine spare parts. Some pictures.
@ Karl : the rear seat back is also original as seen in the picture. The piece below the dashboard though is not original.

Manish, I am also on the lookout for this rexine but really doubt if we can manage to procure these original shades and designs for the upholstry. We will have to make do with whatever is closest, I suppose. Or if someone can custom make these? But at what costing?:Frustrati

Today I went for a look out for rexine, could not find it. if we have 5 to 10 K meter requirment then probably yes we can get it manufactured. I got one which is the best possible match :Frustrati. Pictures are attached. However since the back of the rexine is synthetic, it is not suitable for heat stamping.

In another devlopment managed to find the 3M body seam sealer clap:. Also you tube video on its application

Awesome! I'd like a can please: Do not forget!
Paid a small visit at 4pm today, Tinker had gone out for lunch at such odd hour.
Work seems to be happening, but at a slow pace.
This is a usual phase, when the tinker starts relaxing thinking "OK, very little is left, i will do it slowly"
There is no way on earth, you can get him to work fast at this stage:Frustrati
But whatever done as on date, its a good jobclap:
Also, one advice, at this point of time do try and get other important things ready, like
1) Radiator-- The radiator guy had called me, its ready, please pick it. Paint it and keep it ready
2) Brake fluid reservoir - Remove it right away, buff it and get it chromed
3) Get all the door handles and other small chrome items chromed, pack it and keep it ready.
4) Start working on the mechanicals, Brake parts, Engine, Carb etc.,
Some updates from my end..
Pawan Bhau,
Thanks for the update. Now
1. Radiator - sure, had been busy with lot of official work.
2. Brake fluid resiorvior - will do so once the car is back from tinker. Brakes are required while shifting the car. Have procured all the new brake parts.
3. Once the tinkering is done, some small items require tinkering like headlight ring, front grill and the trims will be taken care by the tinker. Also at that time the repro wheel caps will be tinkered to have finish like originals.
4. All mechanical work will start once the car is back from the tinker.
5. For the engine I have procured all the required parts sans the liners and head. For the liner the lathe guy is a better bet.
I am still loking for a replacement head :Frustrati. Alternatively I m thinking of using COLD WELDING COMPOUND. Belzona is one of them. These are like paste, when cured (24 hrs.) they are very hard. Some compounds have temperature rating of 1300 deg centigrate, can with stand 20 bar pressure and are machinable. The same has been used on one of the block burst. So far so good.
I have asked their agents in India for further advice.
:)

Hi Manish,
Don't bang you head so much as there is no replacement HEAD available for humans.:D
All this is part of a restoration process.. So enjoy it instead.
Hope you find all the parts soon and waiting to see your FIAT on road soon!:)

All of a sudden I am going on tour today evening instead of saturday. With all these field issues it feels like to bang your head.
Just spoke to Nicco Engineering (dealers for Belzona), cold welding compound. The cost of compound is INR 7000 :Frustrati. Now replacement head is the only option.

You are banging your head again! I think you need some counselling about your car restoration.
