The front windshield rubber in one piece also does make a difference.

LVDS was very particular about the car being monsoon-ready.
A locally procured single-piece rubber was found to be a very good fit and was installed. The imported one would have worked out to around 5 times the cost !!
Wiper arms were also installed (after these pics were taken).

Glad to note that the car is running well and the engine heating issues have been resolved.

On the engine front :

1. Repro Air tight type 3 shroud was installed
This made sure that cold air was given safe passage to the engine.

2. Custom made air filter box was fabricated.
This would be replaced with the original type 3 air filter as and when it can be sourced.

3. Mechanical fuel pump was installed since it is safer.
Electronic or mechanical is a matter of preferene, I guess. Both have pros and cons. I prefer the mechanical one since it is as per OE design and reduces the risk of the carb leaking petrol.

4. Resistive Ballast system was removed and ignition coil replaced.

I know many people have will have a differing opinion on the last point, but fitting a resistive ballast to a VW compatible ignition coil (3-4 ohm primary resistance) does not make sense to me, unless you are redesigning the ignition system from scratch with a zero ohm internal primary resistance coil. The stock VW ignition system was not designed with a ballast in mind.

Adding resistance to a coil, which already has an in-built resistance will only bring down the current supply to the primary of the coil. This would affect the dwell time at the points and also the spark that your plugs can generate. This IMO, would lead to lower fuel efficiency and also contribute in a smaller capacity towards the engine overheating.

On a beetle engine this overheating would be negligible due to the more powerful upright fan, but on the type 3 pancake engine, this could make a difference.

Though I fail to see the advantage of fitting this on a beetle engine as well (Other than a marginal increase in the life of the ignition point set).
Appreciate if somebody can explain.

Why the steering wheel is changed from the original one? Or is it that the first one was not the original. There was a mention of sourcing of the horn switch but not about the steering wheel at the second Restorer's place.
The important aspect of the whole long episode is that the car is finally in good nick. Though the whole stuff resembled a sop.
Ultimately the car surges ahead and triumphs beating the passers by.

Yes, the steering wheel was also changed.
Pls see the relevant page from the owner's manual below.

Nice to see the cosmetics being added up to the car.:)

Good job Pankaj, you have the knack of sourcing some hard to find parts.

Sadly money lost is lost, be it mine or of the car owner, the void cannot be filled, but happy to have GIVEN LIFE TO THE DEAD CAR, and most importantly happy to know, that i have been in some part instrumental in getting this Classic back on road.

All it needs is a good pair of tyres and hubcaps. Someday, i would love to ride this car all over again.:thumbs up

Alright, some update to cheer about. Met LVDS today morning, bunch of currency and a couple of hand shakes the car is now mine:D

So, keep riveted to this thread for further updates. A big thanks to thebulletboy ( Pankaj ) for facilitating this purchase.:thumbs up

Eagerly waiting for the updates.
