Car looks to be in great condition. Any idea what is the mileage showing on it.

Also there are some other interesting cars visible in the pics, Rover & MB Ponton amongst others. Is it possible to get pics of all other cars in this collection.

I bekieve that there are at least two Mysore royal Daimlers in Bangalore, one with a large collection which I had seen unrestored a few years ago. This may be that one, now restored.
The second belonged to an engineer who is no more and is with his sisters. Can someone get a picture of that car? I have never seen it, and understand that it is also not shown.

Cheers harit

Dharmasthala Daimler - DE 36 Landaulette

I am indeed happy to confirm that the Dharmasthala Daimler is a DE-36 Landaulette and is the car which was sold by the Australian Govt. to the Maharaja of Mysore. Chassis 51708 body by Hooper

I have confirmed this on my recent visit to Dharmasthala as I had accompanied Mr. Sripathy who had been called to set right the brakes and clutch of the same car. We had spent a whole day there and indeed it was wonderful to be able see all the cars again at the museum, great dharshan at the temple and some wonderful wisdom from the Dharmaadhikari himself, you could not ask for more.

This was was purchased in 1985-6 by the Dharmasthala Trust and was indeed the first car of the Manjusha Car Museum. This car inspired the creation on the Manjusha Car Museum, which has enabled the general public to come and see vintage and classic cars which they normally would not have access to. This car gives a milage of one mile per litre of petrol!

Cheers

Spot On Wasif. Every piece of this car is made for Royalty and must be have been very expensive. Here are some snaps of the engine and model confirmation.

DE 36 has a 8 cylinder engine and is 5460 CC

The engine layout is neat and uncluttered. Note the Twin Carb's. The engine runs very smooth.

I am slightly confused about the number of Daimlers in Bangalore and its surroundings. Can someone clarify?
MEX, CAJ are 2 cars.
But there was also one seen in the shed of Khoday's collection where the unrestored cars were kept. I have seen that myself.
And then there was one with the NAL engineers, who sadly passed away and a Daimler was reported to be with his family. This person was a chum of the late Ravi Kumar. That would make 4 cars, too many. Maybe there is some overlapping?
CAJ belongs to a person connected to the Karnataka vintage car club, is that correct?
And all are ex-Mysore state cars.
I look forward to some clarifications.

Cheers harit

Dear Mr. Harit,

Yes there has been an overlapping as correctly pointed by you. There is no Daimler in the Khoday Collection. I understand that the Dharmasthala car had come to the Khoday's stable for restoration, hence this overlap.

Just to summarize

Gladly both the DE 36's of the Royal Tours of King George VI fame which came to India have been accounted for.
Type DE 36 Chassis # 51703 Hooper Bodied All Weather - Now in Bhogilal's Museum
Type DE 36 Chassis # 51708 Hooper Bodied Landaulette - Now in Manjusha Museum, Dharmasthala.

The other cars in Bangalore
Type DE 27 Chassis # 51078 Windover Bodied - Now with Mr. Sulaiman Jamal (President KVCCC)
Type DB18 is with the family of Late Mr. Raman. This car is not seen for many years.

There are three other cars of the Mysore Fame which are known to exist
1911 Daimler in the Bhogilal Collection as confirmed in the thread earlier.
There are two cars (including a DE27) with a very rich Mill Owner of Coimbatore. I am unable to authenticate this but it is confirmed from very reliable sources.

Hence 7 cars are accounted as per my note above.

Thanks
