It's common to see cars with bald tyres in the whole of India, not just South India.

The accident happened in a stretch of wide enough good road in Kerala. The Alto hit, or got hit by a KSRTC bus. To me, it looks more like an overtaking gone wrong, as the impact is predominantly on the RHS.

CNG cylinders rarely explode - if it had exploded - the Omni would've been blown to smithereens. Normally its the crap cheap *** piping which does. Does someone have a detailed link?

Just to warn other motorists that their vehicle is broken down and they should pass it accordingly. In simple words, it is replacement for hazard lights in such scenarios.

The impact in this accident seems to be much more severe than the Bangalore accident where Director Joshi's daughter lost her life. In the case of cars, the crumple zones will be effective only if they collide with another car. But, if they collide with bigger vehicles like bus and trucks, then most of the times it becomes totally fatal.

In this accident, please watch the condition of the front tyre of the car. It is almost thread-less. Using bald tyres in the front is very very dangerous, especially on wet roads.

It is as a caution sign, probably Green is better than Red. Jokes apart, it is to catch the attention of other vehicles, especially at night where bunch of leaves could reflect light from all directions.

I think, the easy availability of leaves at ANY accident site along with the better visibility in night is the reason. Also, now, it has become almost a 'STANDARD' after using this way for years

What is to be used in such situations is the Reflective caution triangle supplied along with the vehicle as a mandatory item. But, especially truckers fit it on the front side of their truck.
