Re: 5 Star Safety Rating for New Suzuki Dzire

Is it the camera angle, or not? The 5-star rated Verna has more destructuring compared to DZire?

Re: 5 Star Safety Rating for New Suzuki Dzire

This is going to be a game changer for Maruti Suzuki in the Indian car buyers minds. Their cars are practically called Tin Can's but not anymore. With the aftersales support network, which is the best in the country and the contemporary new design in their asthetics, seems like they are in no mood to let go of any more sales.

Re: 2024 Maruti-Suzuki Dzire achieves 5-Star rating in the Global NCAP

Read this article at 10.30 close to my bed in almost half sleep.

I woke up then read the article twice to make sure what I am reading is true.

Very well done by the Market Leader Maruti. 5 star rating for the budget segment is just mind blowing. Thanks to Tata and Maruti for stepping up the game to force the market leader to bring safety aspects in their design.

Now Maruti has stepped up its game in Safety which was it's only downside IMHO. Tata should focus on NVH, Quality, Reliability, Service experience to stay competitive in the market.

Sorry to Skoda as well. Safety USP is not a Monopoly anymore. If Kylaq is being pushed only in terms of safety and performance, not sure there is a right recipe to crack the market.

Overall it's a very good news for all automotive enthusiasts and middle class people in India. Thank you Maruti for Waking up !!!

If it has been opened, it will go off.
Is that the case? In my parents' Toyota Innova Hycross it does not beep even if you have opened the rear doors. It only beeps if you buckle the belts during the journey and then unbuckle them, and it is extremely aggressive (cannot even hear conversation over it) which is ridiculous as I cannot even adjust the radio or switch seats without getting a yelling from my family, heaven forbid you put the tongue in the wrong buckle by accident (it is extremely sensitive and does not even have to lock for the audio signal to start).

On the other hand the symbol in the MID is shown on every unbuckled seat from the start of the journey.

I believe this is how it is implemented in most cars without occupant detection, except a few Marutis, MGs and Tatas which beep from the start even if no one is sitting.

Re: 2024 Maruti-Suzuki Dzire achieves 5-Star rating in the Global NCAP

The image of Maruti Suzuki cars in people mind changed in a blink. We always knew that MS cars are really good on features and refinement but the safety aspect was a sore. Now it has become a perfect "No brainer" car. Kudos MS. And many thanks to all those who never forgot to comment "Tin ka dibba" on every social media post regarding a MS car, your voice is heard amd well heard. Hope they bring same safety standards accross segments and keep improving on it. Long due but most welcome.

Agreed. Maruti has fixed the biggest chunk in their armour - Safety. The only gap I see why buyers may go for other brands is Powertrains. The K15C and Z12 engines are way too boring to drive in comparision to 1.0 TSI or their own in house 1.0 Boosterjet. They need to put the 1.0 Boosterjet in more models like Swift, and bring in the 1.4 Boosterjet for the facelift or next-gen Grand Vitara. Grand Vitara with 1.4 Boosterjet + AT + AWD would be pretty hard to resist.

Re: 5 Star Safety Rating for New Suzuki Dzire

I would like to take this opportunity to share a picture of a Maruti I came across parked on the side of the road in Bombay. It was a Maruti Fronx model I believe, this is from two weeks ago:

I noticed what appeared to be a crossbar within the chewed off door frame. I was pleasantly surprised to see a Maruti with this, I shared this with a couple of people and they too were very surprised.

Verna was rated five stars but the body shell was reported as unstable. On Dzire, it was stable.

Re: 2024 Maruti-Suzuki Dzire achieves 5-Star rating in the Global NCAP

I cannot believe I am talking about a Dzire when I say this, but with aggressive styling, nice interiors, a genuine attempt to fix the taxi image, and now five-star safety, I only have one question left.

When do the 2024 Team-BHP COTY polls open?

Re: 2024 Maruti-Suzuki Dzire achieves 5-Star rating in the Global NCAP

Fantastic news. Safety was the Achilles' heel of Maruti cars. Now, with this news, it is no more. Now we all can completely agree with what Mr. RC Bhargava, Maruti Suzuki chairman said a couple of years before:
Quote:
Safety means ultimately that a customer should be able to buy a safe car but more importantly, that he should have a minimum chance of having an accident. But the bigger aspect is to ensure vehicle fitness or even driver fitness and ensuring rules and regulations are strictly followed.
The best part of Maruti's decision to up the game on safety is peace of mind that offers to its customer. Now Maruti car offers Five Star to its customers:
  • Reliability
  • Mileage
  • Safety
  • After sales service
  • Buying experience
If they test other cars and prove us that there is nothing to worry about crash safety, then it solves a big puzzle for 90 % customers. In that case, all we need to do is just walk into a Maruti showroom and sign a check. The model can be decided later.

On a side note, exceptHyundai Verna, all the budget cars (Less than 15 Lakhs on road price) that have five star crash test rating are having three cylinder engine. Does it mean that the safety comes at the loss of a cylinder? Of course there are a few diesel models and here reliability is at risk, thanks to the DPF.

Re: 2024 Maruti-Suzuki Dzire achieves 5-Star rating in the Global NCAP

Congratulations Maruti. I am not sure if this will have any significant change in the sales numbers for Indian consumers. Just take for example owner of a taxi fleet putting an order for 100 new DZires with 5 star rating and if the dealer gives a good discount for old Dzire with a much less star rating. I am 100% sure that he would buy the old Dzire. We still have not matured enough to take decisions on buying based on star ratings yet. The star rating has become a deciding factor for consumer appliances as the marketing team makes significant effort to highlight this with a big sticker on every appliance. This over a long period of time has finally made sense to Indian consumers for electricity bill savings for 5 star rating appliances.

Dzire

- Built like Tata
- Reliable like Toyota
- Features like Hyundai
- Costs like Maruti

Ultimate game changer in sedan segment is here.

Between 2014 & 2024 Global NCAP has completed more than 70 safety assessments which have acted as an important catalyst in the safety improvement of Indian cars.
More interesting results to come from BNCAP!

Subject: Safer Maruti cars
Hello,

I am a (now not so) proud owner of a 2019 Swift ZXI+ (MT) Petrol car made by Maruti Suzuki.

I have noticed in the international safety testing the Swift performed poorly and garnered only 2 star safety rating.

I am dismayed that people in India give cars (except or Brezza/S-Cross) made by Maruti names like tin can, death traps etc since they are no longer considered safe.

Have you seen the rise of Tata cars to the no 3 sales position in the car market. This is on the basis of safety alone. Their cars are well built and safe and do most things Maruti cars can do and have a 5 star international safety rating.

What is Maruti doing about this? When will we get cars with 6 air bags which your competition is giving? The International Swift gets 4 to 6 air bags then we only get 2 in India?

Kindly let me know.

Sumeet Haldankar
It's been a while but I am glad they have started in the right path. For some strange reason I was elated to read about the Dzire's 5 star performance. It's good they have started from this model and not a Nexa product which is supposedly more premium. I believe the Baleno/Fronx/Vitara will perform well too. Now eagerly waiting for the Team BHP review.

Re: 2024 Maruti-Suzuki Dzire achieves 5-Star rating in the Global NCAP

I would like to know from @ron178 - are there any direct/indirect implications for the 2024 Swift , like the Skoda/VW models ? It would be interesting how the dealers would be selling these two models (Swift and Dzire) going forward.

Additional important question. Would a CNG variant have to be re-tested from structural change standpoint ? Because that's likely the fuel of choice for commercial and some private consumers (especially post this result).
