Chandigarh to Manali

I'm from Bangalore. I'll be reaching Chandigarh at around 5 o' clock by jetlite. I need to reach Manali on the same day. Have an early morning shoot (read 4 AM) the next day. I guess the only way to reach there ASAP is by a cab. Has anyone travelled by a cab from Chandigarh to Manali? How much is the usual charge? Please let me know ASAP!

You can also fly till Bhuntar(Kullu),and then take a cab from there.
I am not sure as to how much do the cabs charge, but it shouldnt be exhorbitant for sure,as lots of them ply on this route.
if you are travelling alone or with one or two people,an Indica makes sense,it will be the cheapest.

Not sure about flying to Bhuntar as my tickets are already booked to Chandigarh and that too at a very exhorbitant price. Just spoke to some cab services in Chandigarh. He said it'll take 8 hours minimum by an indica and the price will be 4500 (including toll and all taxes). Sounds good?

4500,just to drop you till Manali?.I am not well versed with the rates, but still it looks a bit inflated to me.
Cabs are usually hired on per km basis, and distance between chandigarh and Manali is Approximately 315kms.
Did you ask about per km charge?

Its a 300 kms trip and 4500 sounds a bit expensive. Make sure that the cab guys are reliable. If you are planning to head back soon then retain the car and come back by the same and use the same there too. That way it will be a lot cheaper

The flight to kullu makes much better sense though as it is less strenuous

Yeah. He said it's 5.50 p/km for a non-ac Indica. Since Manali is 320 kms away from Chandigarh (and he'll of course charge for travel back to Chandigarh) it's 640 kms. Which makes it around Rs. 3450. Then he said driver charge is Rs. 500 and toll-tax etc is around Rs. 500. So all of this makes it Rs. 4450. Worth it?

If we go by maths,it makes sense, but i would recommend, that you bargain a bit,and if possible, look around for one when you land here in chandigarh.
Lots of options available and you will be able to strike a better deal.

Called up other cab services. They're charging Rs. 4200 inclusive of everything. Guess I'll go with this only. Thanks for your advice buddy. BTW, I'm a hardcore foodie. Is there anything legendary food-joint on Chandigarh-Manali route?

Yeah. But I'll be heading out with the production team only. So guess I won't be needing any cab. I've struck a deal for 4200. Which I think is ok since to and fro charge is about Rs. 3450 (Rs. 5.50 per km for 640 kms), plus there are a lot of toll-taxes to be paid and then driver's fee too.

Hey,i am a foodie too.
too bad you are short on time, else we could have met up in chandigarh.
i did this route till Aut on 22nd April.
Nothing special to satisfy your taste buds.
But we stopped at Mayur Dhaba(I am not sure of name),at sundernagar, and food was good there if not awsome.
Once in manali, you will have lots of options there.

Thanks. I have a list of joints in Manali to go to. And I've just asked my friend to lend his 'Highway on my plate' book. It's a must for us traveling foodies.

The only Tolls on way from Chandigarh to Manali will be - Rs 12 or so at Kurali bridge & about Rs 40 or so while entering Himachal after Kiratpur, but around Rs 4200 or so is Ok considering the hill journey.

Avoid the Airport at Bhuntar as flights are usually canceled at last moment , unfortunately no special food joints but if you want to have taste of some authentic food - there is one Dhaba - Bhadure Ka Dhaba after Bilaspur on right side , about 7-8 km from bilaspur - immediately after you cross Panchvati Hotel on your left & about 1 km before Ghagas- he serves only Makki Roti with Daal and you can buy Desi Ghee in Grams! He will measure from his drum & pour straight into your plate.

Re: Chandigarh to Manali

Creative,

You can hire the cab from Hertz in the airport itself.

We travelled from Chandigarh to Manali last July on our way to Ladakh as the flight to Kulu got cancelled and had to take the flight to CGH. We paid Rs 9000 for the journey which is actually for both ways. It is expensive as all cab agencies charge for return Trip as well.

Road condition then was good and it is very scenic. It took us 9 hours in Indigo.

Woah! 9K! Yikes! Sorry sir. Too expensive! My budget is only 5k. And I've finalised a deal already. Thank you sir.
