Planing for a trip from Gurgaon - Aug 20/21/22 - Good destinations?

Hi,

Am planning a trip during the long weekend on Aug 20/21/22 from Gurgaon. I would like to goto some hill stations in driving distance.

Any suggestions? My thoughts are:

Shimla/Chail/Landsowne?/Nainital?

Could also look at Agra (not sure about weather though)

Also - would appreciate if road conditions are also indicated. Had a harrowing time last year during August - was driving to Chakrata and there were some bands with lot of landslides and stuff, had to turn back as it was night and very little visibility and i was with full family

Heavy rains & landslides in these area. Maybe the situation might improve in 10 days from now. Agra might be muggy.

Try Morni for a change..

I think from the above option Chail or Nahan will be less crowded.. Shimla & Nainital will be packed. Even Chokhi Dhani is a good option.

I haven't been there but have heard it is a nice place with fabulous views of Shivaliks. Since it is close to Musssorie - 24 KMs - roads should be good.

One of my friend was back from shimla last week and told me patches of bad road after kalka. He did face any landslide. Its a chance and there are good two weeks plus.

thanks V&V, fauji and GD sir

I have decided to goto Corbett for that weekend. Jhirna gate is open during the monsoons and i think seeing a jungle in monsoons has its own charm

Thanks all for the suggestions.

For for the route - any tips? Has anyone been to corbett recently - how are the roads, etc?

Though you've already finalized on Corbett but still, how about Saat-tal? It'd have nice weather, lakes to go kayaking/swimming and small jungle trails too. Check it out if you haven't been there. I went there last to last year, same time and it was good fun for 2 days.

Re: Planing for a trip from Gurgaon - Aug 20/21/22 - Good destinations?

Thanks fine69.

I am sorry - but this came a little late, have firmed up the plan and made bookings.

Now i need some help with further details in Corbett..

- route from Gurgaon, road conditions, etc
- The resort in Corbett is quoting me 3K + per jeep per safari. Is this a good price? Can it be negotiated?

Anyone who has been to corbett in recent past, pls respond?

Re: Planing for a trip from Gurgaon - Aug 20/21/22 - Good destinations?

Got news today - that it is raining heavily in the that region and there are landslides and minor flooding in Corbett. So the plan is cancelled.

Again back to looking for some destinations to goto during the coming w/e!

Suggestions? The himchal locations - Manali, Shimla, etc are also out due to the same reason.

So is Nainital and other locations nearby Nainital.

Suggestions pls.

Landslides are everywhere, but reaching places like Shimla,Manali wont be an issue,as these are connected by National Highways,so chances of getting stuck are quite less.
I and a few friends are also riding out on that weekend, that destination we had locked upon, has been blocked by a huge landslide,so we also are looking out for a suitable destination.

Well - my resort people in Corbett told me that it is completely cut off due to lanslides and also some water in the resort as the resort is on the banks of river Kosi. So they are cancelling all reservations.

I am also informed about Manali, Dharmshala - by them.

Re: Planing for a trip from Gurgaon - Aug 20/21/22 - Good destinations?

Dear Sach.Sri:

Even thought its a bit late in the day to respond I have a few pointers on the Corbett plan you had.

1. Most resorts in Corbett were accessible despite heavy rains. I stayed at Ramganga resort in the same period. Ramganga, along with Solluna is one of the farthest resort on that route being 33km from Ramnagar. Corbett Hideaway tends to get affected by floods but resorts like Tiger Camp, Infinity continue to function throughout the year.
2. Rs.3000/- for a jeep half day safari is day-light robbery. The rates are now fixed by the government and the rate list is posted at Ramnagar Van Parisar. For a half day safari the rate is Rs.1500/-. Jhirna gate is open throughout the year and you can stay their overnight.
3. As a brief aside, Kasauli is a good but oft overlooked option for short weekend breaks. Baikunth resort in Kasauli is a nice place to stay. Kanataal near Mussourie is another option and The Terraces in Kanataal is quite good.

Cheers!
