Hi,

Am planning a short trip to mukteshwar towards the endof october (diwali time). Can anyone guide me on the best route to take? I noted from general google search that there are two routes but not sure about the road conditions.

What would be the approximte drive time? My 17 month old daughter would accompany me, so need a decent route with less pot holes, and minimal traffic jams.

Planning to stay at GMVN. Does anyone have an alternate suggestion?

I drove from delhi to Mukteshwar last year with the kids. It was a night drive where we started from Delhi around 10pm.
The route taken was Moradabad - Rampur - Rudrapur City - Haldwani - Bhowali - Mukteswar.
The road condition was good in most of the stretch.

Accomodation: There is no GMVN in Mukteswar. Probably you are talking about KMVN. Do book in advance as this place gets pretty is full during weekends and holidays.
There are a bunch of other hotels in Mukteswar. Do expect room rates at excess of Rs. 2000 during diwali time.

I'd agree with Recker on the route for the most part, except the stretch between Rampur and Haldwani. This is a road that gets damaged a lot, and has heavy traffic.

From Moradabad, you can take the route towards Kaladhungi, and from Kaladhungi you can go to Haldwani and go up from there. This route has very less traffic and the roads are pretty good.

For stay you can also choose between:
Mukteshwar Himalayan Resort (Contact: Nagendra - 09412085494). Highly recommended for it's VFM and comfort aspects.
Or, there is a great resort a few kms from Mukteshwar, nestled between Apple Orchards and Dense Forests. It is owned by a retired Army guy, but have forgotten the name. A bit expensive but fabulous property. Do some oogling to find that out.

I'd also highly recommend that you do the drive between Mukteshwar and Almora via the forest route. It is a picturesque drive.

By the wat you can post this query on INDIAMIKE and you will probably get route updates for the last few days.

Kaladhungi road is in terrible condition nowadays. Stick to the Rampur route.

Try to stay in PWD guest house in Mukteshwar, it has the best location and views...

Moradabad - Rampur - Rudrapur City - Haldwani - Bhowali - Mukteswar. this is the most viable route. I just did it on 17th Sep. The only bottle neck is a railway crossing after Rampur where, a flyover is being built. We got stuck both times!
Acco: you may want to check out Himalayan Resort Sonapani, himalayan village sonapani, I have stayed here a number of times, very kid friendly, great views and nice people running the place.

Any idea how long would the drive take from Delhi? Plan to leave early morning by 6am.

1. MDR65W via Tanda, Bazpur To Kaladhungi.

Can you please confirm which one to take.

Kashipur, Bazpur - Kaladhungi.
Be careful driving through both these towns - lots of unruly traffic.

I just came back from Almora and took the below route.
Apart from 3 - 5 Kms bad patches on Kashipur road and Dagarpur, the roads are smooth to drive on.

The alternate route from Tanda is horrible, but on this route roads are great except exactly 5 KMs after Suar & before Bazpur.
