Selective,

You mentioned that the Kushalnagar-Madikeri route is good. What about the other one: Hunsur--Gonikoppa--Virajpet-- Madikeri? Is that route fine?

I need to go to Kakkabe- I am starting tomorrow morning.
Any quick update would be appreciated.

Thanks....

I think once you reach Hunsur, it then depends on where you need to go. For folks who have planned to stay in North Coorg end up in Medikeri via Kushalnagar.

Hunsur, Karnataka to Madikeri, Karnataka - Google Maps

For folks who prefer South Coorg go towards Virajpet.

As you can see the route to Madikeri via this route is longer.

I am not aware of the condition of roads on this route. Just spoke to a friend who is from Virajpet. The roads are really pathetic on this route till Gonikoppa. So, even if the Madikeri route is longer, take that route is the suggestion!

Hope I am not late with this info.

Hi - I'm planning to drive from Bangalore to Kutta (South Coorg) next week. I've been suggested the Mysore - Hunsur Road (via Elivala) and then Hunsur - Kutta Road through Nagarhole National Park. I've never driven this route - could someone in the know please provide suggestions on road conditions, possibly alternative routes (maybe better in terms of sight seeing, etc) ? Also planning to visit Dubare elephant camp - I've heard that it is better to do some booking there to spend time with the elephants - can someone with prior experience provide some detail here also? Many Thanks.

No booking required for Dubare elephant camp. The activities ( river bathing, feeding and playing ) start from 8.30 am and carries on till 11.00 am everyday. A nominal Rs.20 per head is collected as entrance. Boat fees to get to the camp is Rs. 20. If you wish to stay at JLR dubare inn, you need to book in advance. worth visiting with kids.

also, suggest visit the namdroling monastery Buddhist Golden temple at Bylakuppe near Kushalnagar.

attaching photographs of the elephant camp and the Golden temple.

Thanks buddy - useful info on the timing. Will plan accordingly. Yes - I do plan a stop @ Bylakuppe on the way back - beautiful photo btw :). Rgds

Route is correct and road conditions are good till Hunsur and within the national park. I guess, you need not worry about the road conditions. Near Kutta, you have Iruppu water fall which you can visit. If you are planning to visit Dubare, plan to be there in the morning. Post lunch you wont get to see the way elephants are being trained.

You are right, Selective.

I am just back from Misty Woods, off Virajpet. The route of SH88A (Hosur-Gonikoppa-Virajpet) is **horrible**. While returning, decided to come back via Madikeri. Although it was 20-25km longer, I took same time giving my Cruze the comfort she wanted!!

Thanks for the feedback - So when you say you came back via Madikeri, do you mean Madikeri - Suntikoppa-Kushalnagar-Periyapatna-Hunsur route?

Please provide the detail, since I'll be returning back from North Coorg - this will help me avoid the *** bad *** route :)

No worries- mogambo- for you :)

For people coming from North Coorg (oops, am writing with my v.v.limited knowledge on Coorg please: ), take the _normal_ route:
Madikeri-Kushalnagar-Periyapatna-Hunsur
Road is bad with pot-holes just before & after Madikeri.

Even for people going to Kakkabe, I'd suggest going through Madikeri- drive an additional 20-25 km.

Not sure about Suntikoppa- did not notice it!

From Kutta, you need to come to Gonikuppa - Virajpet - Madikeri and then to Talacauveri via bhagamandala. After reaching Gonikkuppa, take left and this road will take to Virajpet. Take left (am I right..?? ) at the clock tower towards Madikeri. To decide the route after Madikeri, I think this post will help you -> http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/route-...ml#post1353322

Thanks
Rajesh

The correct spelling is Gonikoppal. I am not guessing, I used to live there.:)

Kutta - Talacauvery

Drive through srimangala to gonikoppa and take a left at the town to go towards virajpet.

At virajpet take a right before the clock tower to go towards murnad. At murnad you got to take a left to bhagamandala and then talacauvery. Ask people when in doubt.

Virajpet: Once you approach town, it will be a T junction- you can also see a Masjid. You have to take right here- most of the vehicles will take that. After that you'd see Clock Tower. Take first right BEFORE the clock tower. Straight road will take you to Murnad- what maddy42 wrote.

Alternatively, (if you are going to Talacauvery), you can take left after a twin-bridge (4km after the turn @ clock tower). This road will take you through Kakkabe, Napoklu, Bettageri. Take left to go to Talacauvery.

I can also see another route directly from Kakkabe. Check whether this map can help you.

All the best,
~Animesh
