Dear all,

I'm planning for a 3 day trip next week from Trichy covering Pillaiyarpatti - Tiruchendur - Tirunelveli - Srivilliputhur - Madurai - Trichy.

Day 1 : Start @ 6 am, Reach Pillaiyarpatti - Rameshwaram - Tiruchendur
Stay @ Tiruchendur

Day 2: Tiruchendur - Tirunelveli (Nellaiyappar Temple) - Srivilliputhur (Andal temple) - Madurai . Stay @ Madurai

Day 3: Madurai till afternoon 2 pm, Back to Trichy by 5 pm.

1. Is this plan workable ?
2. Is it possible to cover Rameshwaram or Do I need so skip Rameshwaram?
3. What is good route from Pillaiyarpatti to Tiruchendur ? Via Madurai or thru Karaikudi - Kallal - Kalayarkoil - Maravamangalam - Elayankudi - Paramakudi

Please advise.

Thats packed! You can finish Piilaiyarpatti and drive to Rameshwaram by evening. Thats it. Stay there for night. (N1)

Bangalore-Pilliarpatti:
Bangalore-Salem-Namakkal-Dindigul-Natham-Tirupathur-Piiliarpatti
Brilliant 4-lane till Dindigul. Need to get into Dindigul town. Ask for Nattham road. And continue on this 2-lane to Pailliarpatti via Tirupathur.


Piiliarpatti-Rameshwaram:
Piiliarpatti-Karaikudi-Devakottai-Ramnad-Rameshwaram
NH210 seems to have improved and I read on the forum that its very good.



Rameshwaram-Tiruchendur
Rameshwaram-Ramnad-Sayalgudi-Tuticorin bypass-Tiruchendur

Tiruchendur-Madurai:

Tiruchendur-Turicorin bypass-Arrapukottai-Madurai (Brilliant 4-lane 45B from Tutocorin)

Just remembered: Please check details with @ravib or J-Ravi about timings of the temple at Pilliarpatti. Hope its open when you land there by noon. I doubt it though.
You may have to wait. I will let others comment on it.

Pillayarpatti temple timings: 6 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 8:30 pm. The details are here. During my last visit, we reached there by 3:45 pm and waited upto 4 pm before entering the temple.

However, if you can postpone your trip to November, then the Pillayarpatti temple will be open from 6 am - 8.30 pm to accommodate ayyappa devotees.

Planning to drive to Manapad near Tiruchendur and then to Thoothukudi from Kochi. The route planned is Punalur - Tirunelveli - Tiruchendur - Manapad - Thoothukudi.

Plan to start by 6 am from Kochi and hope to reach Thoothukudi by 6 pm after visiting Manapad church.

Is it feasible and how's the route selected and road conditions, especially between Tirunelveli and Manapad and then to Thoothukudi?

Thats the correct route. You can also follow : Kochi-Vaikom-Kottayam-Adoor-Punalur.

I would say its possible. But it would be good it you can plan a 4AM start such that you can come out of Kerala earlier.

Road is good between Tirunelveli-Tiruchendur.

Thanks ampere saab for the guidance, it certainly helps. I planned to take Alleppey - Kayamkulam - Adoor - Punalur route as it is faster than the one via Kottayam.

Thanks for the advise to take enough water, which I'll surely follow.

Was not sure about the Kayakulam option on traffic hence and thought of the alternate. There is way to go round Kottayam. But as you say I also now feel Kayaklam is a much better option.
By all means you would know much better about the traffic.

By all means you would know much better about the traffic.

It is not because road via Kottayam is bad and traffic is high but there are lots of twists and turns, which will hamper progress. I'm not a habitual fast driver but prefer maintaining speed around 60, which can be easily maintain at least till Kayamkulam.
