Re: Bangalore –> Wayanad –> Munnar –> Kodaikanal –> Pondicherry route

While the OP has planned from Bangalore, we have a plan to visit Kerela during the peak season around Christmas, when hopefully there are no rains.

Key points to cover:
1. KATHAKALI dance at Munnar,
2. KALARIPPAYATTU again at Munnar (as bonus)
3. Some place where we can take boat safari and see some wild life
4. Some place where we can experience back waters of Kerela
5. Some place where we can see elephants having bath
6. Relaxing trip with parents who are 65+
7. A jungle jeep safari (low priority)

I am planning to book accommodation using AirBNB, considering high rates in resorts/ hotels due to "super peak" season.

20/12: Pune - Shimoga (or any other place further south on NH4)
21/12: Shimoga - Wayanad (no accommodation booked so far) - Route via Mysore is better?
22/12: Wayanad: Need to figure out what to see. No trekking or long walks, since I have aged parents
23/12: Wayanad -Thekkady - reach before sunset
24/12: Thekkady-Munnar-Thekkady site seeing
25/12: additional day
26/12: Thekkady - Allepy or Kumarakom (to see backwaters)
27/12: Proceed towards Kochi
28/12: Kochi to Udupi
29/12: Attend wedding
30/12: Proceed towards Goa (need to include beach)

Please suggest route which I should take once I am in Kerela.

You can make it to Mysore on Day one. The second day, do some sight seeing in Mysore (Palace, Zoo, Dam, Temple etc) and the head to Mysore. Much better this way.

Head to Munnar first and then to Thekkady. Waynad-Calicut-Trichur-Angamaly-Perumbavoor-Kothamangalam-Adimali-Munnar

Munnar-Thekkady is easy.

Kumarakom/Allepey - Kochi is straight forward.
Kochi-Udupi is a big one. Extremely fatigue inducing drive. You will need to start quite early. Kochi-Angamaly-Trichur-Kunnamkulam bypass - Edappal - Kuttipuram - Calicut bypass - Kannur - Kanhagad - Udupi. (I really doubt if you can make it that far in a day. Check with others).

We had been to Mysore last year. So, we are not very keen to do site seeing there. But still it is an option to stay overnight and leave the next morning.
That is only if we are willing to go 900 KM in one day.

I am uncertain about the road condition from Hiriyur to Mysore. How good is that road?

The route from Wayanad to Munnar is quite different from the one I looked at earlier (via Palakkad and Udumalpet). I trust that your route has less hills and probably broader as well.

Will check. I was hoping it is just 12 hours drive (500 KM).

Its actually much easier to cover this distance on day one.

Fantastic 2-lane. But be ready for humps. There is no traffic though.

Yes thats an option too. Waynad-Meppadi-Gudalur bypass - Nilambur - Perinthalmanna - Palakkad - Pollachi - Udumalpet - Munnar.

Account for ghats at initial (Waynad-Perinthalmanna) and final (Udumalpet-Munnar) stages.

Both options have their pros and cons.
