re: Bangalore - Mysore route to become a 6-Lane Toll Road

The 4 laning of the existing road did not face any problem and was done fast although it was a state highway. Lets not be too pessimistic. There will be a lot of irrigated land that would be lost but hopefully with the right compensation it should not pose a problem.

re: Bangalore - Mysore route to become a 6-Lane Toll Road

Roads bring "prosperity" and mean "development" to us in India

Even if the road is widened and major towns bypassed, it will not take much time, maybe 2-3 years before new buildings and other "developments" begin beside the bypassed section as well becoming new extensions of the original towns that the road bypasses! This is a vicious cycle and we all have grown up seeing this

We need a way to access control these tolled roads (like NICE Road for example) so that there is no additional development beside the road and to make it much more safer for higher speeds (at least 70 or 80kmph).

re: Bangalore - Mysore route to become a 6-Lane Toll Road

I think the biggest contribution to Mysore road (apart from Hump removal) would be getting all the bypasses to towns in place. These locations being in agricultural belt, I hope dont cause issues with land acquisition.

Ramnagar & Channapatna already have a bypass ... those bypasses are now part of those towns. If a new bypass is built, it will become part of city in few years.

On Mandya, there is a decade old debate whether to build a flyover or a bypass

Too much humps and jumps. Its a nightmare to drive on this highway.
Since it is a state highway, locals decide where they want humps.

It needs to be six laned with extra service roads. Highway needs to be cordoned off. Too many trucks, local buses, dawdling two wheelers, tractors, autos.
Main drawback of current road is it lacks 2-wheeler lane - they are forced to stray into fast lanes.

Hopefully, all these are addressed when it is declared as national highway.

According to the article, the highway will be upgraded to six lane by 2017-2018 and upon completion of the six lane highway, there will be applicable toll according to the NHAI norms.

Here is another news article on the same issue.
