Is the Mahad Temple the closest Ashtavinayak Temple from Bombay?
Or is it the Pali one.

Can some give directions from Chembur, Bombay to both the Pali & the Mahad one - I will travelling to either on separate days.

Also the number of kms & the approximate time?

mahad is the closest one.
chembur-vashi-panvel-old pune highway-mahad[ 3 km before khopoli].

but you can do both pali and mahad at a time.
chembur-vashi-panvel-nh17-pen-nagothane-left turn to pali-pali-khopoli-mahad-old mumbai highway-panvel-vashi-chembur.

I am not good with directions, so if someone could provide more
detailed directions it would help - I normally go from Chembur to Pune
on the expressway, so I know how to get to Vashi.

I have never gone on the old pune highway from Bombay? where
exactly do I get on to the old highway & what are the directions?
Also does Mahad lie on the old highway? Do I take a left/right turn from the Highway for the temple? 3 kms before Khopoli doesn't help much unless I go to Khopoli & come back 3 kms. What point on the highway does Mahad come after?

if you are familier with expressway, then stick to express way. follow this route.

chembur-vashi-panvel-expressway-first toll plaza at khalapur-take left turn at toll plaza toward khopoli[ ask for direction at toll plaza]-now you are on expressway khopoli link road-drive toward khopoli[ this section of 5 km road is really in bad condition]-you will be at a junction where old bombay pune highway intersects-left turn at this junction toward mumbai-drive slow on left lane-look out for mahad ganapati board at left side-after 2/3 km you will notice the road and board-turn left on that road and travel for 2km-you will be at mahad-while coming back, take old mumbai highway, now it will be easier to you to reach panvel.

drive safe.

I found prefer to follow whatever route takes less time (unless the
roads are really bad on one of the routes).
If you could let me know the route to reach the old highway & how to
reach mahad from there, that would be very helpful. Also how much
time do you think it will take from Chembur to the temple?

I am assuming this is the place where one normally pays 140 Rs for going
to Pune. How much is charged if I want to go to Khopoli?
Also how far after the toll plaza is the left turn?
How many kms from the left turn to the junction where old bombay-pune
highway intersects?

1] yes, you are right.
2] i don't know exactly but should be less than rs 50.
3] you have to turn left at @100 meter after toll plaza. you ask directions at toll plaza. in fact, you can see that turn from toll plaza.
4] you have to travel @ 5 km from toll plaza to the junction where old highway intersects. this stretch is in bad shape. hope it is rectified recently.

Thanks for your help, Ashish.

I went by the old highway. After passing Kharghar, there are signs which
point to how to go to the old Highway - basically instead of going over
the bridge to the expressway, go from below & turn right - I think this is around 12-13 kms from Vashi Toll Gate.
First 10 kms after turning had a lot of traffic & was driving at 40-50 kmph,
but after that the old highway was pretty clear & I was driving at 80-90.
Then finally a small right turn which has signs saying Mahad Ashtavinayak.
1 km on the small road & you reach the temple.

Total distance from Chembur Eastern Express Highway was around 62-63 kms & took me 1.5 hrs - 2 toll booths - Vashi for Rs. 30 & one more on
the old highway where I paid Rs 34(?) for a return journey.

While coming back, I again came by the old highway, but somehow I missed the turn to go to Panvel after crossing the toll both. I kept going after that, I landed up at the JNPT toll both & paid another Rs. 20 & then took a right a km further & got back on the road to Bombay.

So I have covered 5 out of the 8 Ashtavinayaks in about 5 months :-)

Pali, Sidhatek & Ranjangaon are remaining - I think.
Will try to cover them in the next 3 months.

Ashish - replying to old thread. I didn't finish the remaining 3 in 3 months. They are still left. Planning to do them in the next 3 months.

Can you or some give directions to go from Pune (Aundh) to the Pali Ashtavinayak?
Also what would be approximate number of kilometres.

Also separate directions for Pune(Aundh) to Ranjangaon & kms.
I am planning to do one of these 2 this weekend.

Ashish, I have done 5 of the 8 till now in 2 years:-) - each of them with directions from you :-)

I went & came back. Directions are very simple.

Get on Nagar Road & keep travelling. The temple is on Nagar Road itself.
From Boat Club Road/Pune Central Mall to the Toll Booth is about 20 kms.
From the toll booth Ranjangaon Ashtavinayak is 25 kms.

Ranjangaon is the only temple among Ashtvinayak which is easy to access and bang on highway. Ranjangon is most developed among others.
Others are 2 to 40 km off highway.
