Dear friends,

I am planning a trip next month between 14 and 19 from Hyderabad to Jog Falls (night halt). Jog falls to Goa via Mangalore (no halt) and returning back from Goa via Belgaum, Bhagalkot, Raichur, Hyderabad.

Kindly advise the condition of the roads and places to stay. I am travelling with my wife and two teenage kids in my Nissan Sunny.

thanks & best regards,
VARMA

Hyderabad - Gokarna:
Whether your destination is Gokarna or Goa, you will still end up driving till Hubli/Idgundi. So please refer to the thread that has discussion on Hyderabad to Goa route conditions here.

In fact, you can include Murudeshwara in your itinerary so you get better choices to stay here.

Hyderabad - Jog Falls:
To reach Jog falls directly from Hyderabad, it will make sense to opt for Gadag - Laxmeshwar Bankapura Siri Jog Falls route. However remember to check if there is sufficient water outflow at the falls before your visit or else it will be complete waste to be here!

Jog falls itself will have limited places to stay including KSTDC facilities.

Jog falls - Mangalore:
No Brainer, either do it via longer route by touching Mumbai - Mangalore NH via Honnavar or shorter but more twistier and interior route by hitting NH at Yelavadikavoor and then the usual NH all the way to Mangalore (via Kundapura Udupi)

Plenty of choices in Mangalore itself and hence I won't suggest a particular Hotel. Search popular portals and choose accordingly.

Mangalore - Goa: .
Again a straightforward route all the way traversing through the NH from Mangalore to Goa via Udupi Kundapura Bhatkal Honnavar Ankola Karwar Goa. 4 Lane work is nearly completed till Kundapura and in progress from here till Goa in bits and pieces.

For places to stay in Goa, you can always refer this thread.

thank you Parag. I heard there is a road between the sea and a river on the way from Mangalore to Goa. Where is it. This is the only reason I wanted to go to Mangalore from Jog Falls.

One such spot is at Maravanthe. The shore, road and river are only a few feet apart (the road is raised). It is a beautiful 1.5ish km drive! Having studied in Manipal, Maravanthe was a favorite ride post-dinner. :)

Not anymore since 4 lane work ensured to do much damage to this once beautiful section.

This was nearly 2 years back from my drive:

We're planning for a similar kind of trip during August 15 to 19th. Initial plan of the trip is like this,

Size: 11.3 KB

Of course, if everything permits we will try go via Mangalore, murudeswar, udupi & then Gokarna from Jog. Now,

1. Does the plan sound good?
2. Pl help for stay options near jog.
3. Do we need to precautions to cover the area near Jog, Amboli etc (Ghat Roads, so any word of caution like narrow or slushy road etc..)

TIA
