Best place to visit outside of Ooty, Kodai/Munnar

Folks,

We are planning a 3 day vacation end of this Month. I am based out of Bangalore and am looking for ideas on places to visit..

We have ruled out Ooty/Munnar/Kodai because we have been there many times..

We cant go to Mangalore/Kerala/Goa/Pondicherry because it will be too hot..

Can you suggest some unconventional resorts/hillstations that we can plan our vacation to?

Should be in a driveable distance from bangalore (<600 kms)

Thanks in advance for your inputs..

Here are some ideas

1) Bandipur national park- 215 Kms from Bangalore (Check out Travelogue section- Samurai's detailed writeup is there)
2) Vythiri- Roughly 280 Kms from Bangalore (Again see Travelogue section)
3) Coorg- 252 Kms from bangalore (akroy's travelogue)

All three takes you through Mysore, and also offers a cool and nice drive

I did think about Yercaud, but the drive is not as much fun (at this time)compared to others mentioned here

Again,

We visited Vythiri in November

and visited Coorg many times..

I feel Bandipur will still be very hot.. Any ideas whether this is the right time?

If you have decided for some new Hill Station, then try out:
1) Yelagiri Hills (about 175km)
2) Chikmagalur (about 300km)
3) K. Gudi (about 300odd kms)
4) Horsley Hills (about 150km)
5) Masinagudi
6) Niliyampathy (about 500km via Coimbatore)
7) Yercaud (about 250km)

See if you have any other idea....

You're talking about Coonoor right? Last time I visited there the place was awfully crowded. There are a few nice places a little outside of town however. They also have a Taj Garden retreat and another nice Neemrana hotel.

Exactly, sorry for spell error. But if one stays at the wellingdon gymkhana, you beat the crowd and the place is heaven, away from the main town.

Hi
You can try out Kemmangundi, an offbeat hillstation near Chikmagalur. It has some pretty sylvan sorroundings, is definitely far from the madding crowd and clean. Enroute, you can also try out Muthodi forest which is an awesome place.

Another option would be Agumbe of the "Malgudi days" fame. Its very renowned for its sunset. You have to be a real country-side lover though as this is not one of those commercial places - you will have to search things to do. The only decent accomodation here is the government TB, which is in a superb location. Actually, you can combine all three.

I would be glad to provide further route info.

Cheers

You can also try Bandipur + Himavad Gopalswamy hills....beautiful place. Theres a decent resort at the foot of the hill just off Bandipur National Park called MC Resort.

Cheers

@shankaranand, have stayed there and yes pretty good, this was quite sometime back. You have another alternative , try this place also
Jungle Lodges & Resorts K Gudi
Havent stayed at the 2nd place though. Nature Nirvana is a real good and yes you would have to compromise on the roads to get there. If you ok with life is back to basics head there and you can forget civilized life and traffic signals for the next few days.
Just ask the resort chaps some good places you can visit and am sure they will tell you.If you in for venturing out all by yourself its gonna be real fun.Am posting some pics,

Once again depends on your comfort level and what kind of stay you are looking for. So decide what suits you best.
Happy tripping !!
