Hi all
Have a planned trip to Bangalore from Chennai and return during the weekend of 21/22
Given that I will be starting from Navalur and destination being Kanakapura road, I guess the route to take will be Vellore - Krishagiri - Hosur route ?

Are there latest updates on the route after the Fengel cyclone ?

Mostly would be taking the Vandalur - Oragadam - Sriperumbudur or Sunguvarchatram route
Are the diversions near Ambur, Krishagiri etc any better now ?

Yes, Krishnagiri route is the best option.

I have done this route many times in the last 3 years since my in-laws live in Pattabiram. My experience is - its a good route if you are travelling in late hours. Else traffic between Pattabiram and Thiruvallur, inside Thiruvallur, Tiruttani, RK Pet, Sholinghur, Chittoor towns will slow you down. Many speed breakers between Thiruvallur and Pattabiram as well. But overall roads are good. Not too many bad patches.

This route is very cumbersome if destination is near Tambaram, OMR etc.

I agree. The route in its current shape is very bad to cover. But once the bypasses are up. it would be very good to use I was thinking.

Thirittanni I understand is a problem. They have a bypass for the south east. But none for North-wesst of south-west. Hope they plan one.

Yes, satellite view in Gmaps shows bypasses for most towns between Pattabiram and Thiruvallur.

Wish they made a bypass for Chitoor on the northern side: from near Heritage parlour on the east to at least the old bypass near Murukkambattu on the north east.

Problem is there are no 4-lane roads entering Chitoor from the east side. Hence no bypasses. The only other 4-lane coming up there is the Chitoor-Thatchoor Expressway which again will lead to north Chennai at the start of the Peripheral ring road.

This is the exact latitude-longitude of the turn. You can paste in GMaps and chart your route. Its a straight road from Oragadam (assuming you are coming from Vandalur).

SH120 does not directly intersect with NH4, you either go under the bridge and take left at Sunguvarchatram town. Or there is an entry ramp before the underpass, which tons of lorries take to Sriperumbudur Sipcot.

The latter can sometimes be a pain. The former is slow with town center traffic and the underpass has always been a mess since times immemorial.

You have Upashana hotels on the right side ( when travelling from Sriperumpudur -> Vellore ) which is 1 or 2 kms before the Kanchipuram left ( erstwhile white gate ).
The quality of Saravana Bhavan has definitely come down.

On the left side after you cross Kanchipuram-dhamal-chittanji and just before Ocheri, you have the Cafe Udupi Ruchi.

These are my two homing hotels probably because I am almost always near them during breakfast/dinner time.

Another 40 minutes and you reach Alankar at Ratnagiri and the next good stop is probably sai Sangeet after Ambur, but on the right side.

There could be others that I have not had the good fortune to have relished
