Getting out of Coimbatore is a pain due to the Avinashi 4L work. What you can do as suggested in the other thread, get out on NH67 till Kangeyam. Then divert to Perundurai. Cross the railway bridge and get on NH47. That would be much faster than taking the straight forward NH47 from Coimbatore to Avinashi.

I think Chennai-Salem-Perundurai-Kangeyam-Palladam-CBE would be good through out.

Chennai-Salem (via Vellore, Krishnagiri). Krishnagiri-Salem is good. Not sure about Chennai-vellore-Krishnagiri --> someone please update.

I did Salem-Perundurai-Kangeyam-Palladam last month and was good. I heard, Palladam-CBE is also good.

(By this route, You could avoid Avinasi-CBE, where 4L is in progress as per the last update I had.)

Beautiful 4L; being used day in and day out by folks.
Esp after 46 separates from NH4, its even more nicer to drive.

Problem is only till Kanchi, where you would find lots of private buses and trucks plying on the 4L. Add to it the problem of getting on NH4 (esp the Poonamallee oprion via Porur road),
Need to time it right, else you loose time there.

Infact, you can constantly average atleast 80 to 90 kms per hour in the stretch between Ranipet till Krishnagiri which has very less traffic. You sometimes never notice, when the speedo needle crossed the point than the actual speed what you thought. Good FE stretch in short.

From Krishnagiri till Avinashi, though the roads are superb, comparitively the traffic will be higher, as all vehicles from both B'lore & Chennai going towards CBE/Kerala will take this route.

Just trying to get the latest information. Nothing reaches faster than Team BHP. Just trying to get the road conditions to plan the trip.

Between "Chennai - Vizhupuram - Salem - Coimbatore route" and "Chennai - Krishnagiri - Salem - Cbe route"

which one would you suggest. I stay near Tambaram and both the routes are easy to access from my place. In fact from my home travelling 20Kms takes me to Nokia factory in Sriperumbuthur.

If NH45 route is good and takes same time as Banglore route i would want to consider.

Let me know your thoughts.

If you are in experimental mood and travelling during the day, try the former. You'll drive through a WIP 4-laned NH68 with many diversions and no bypasses after Villupuram (you'll pass through Ulundurpet town to take the Salem turnoff). If you want hassle free drive (atleast till Chengapalli in both cases) choose the latter.

Guys,

Avoid Avinashi to CBE route at any cost. This is a total waste of time and energy.

I started from chennia at 5 and reached avinashi by 10.00. Yet it took me almost 1.5 hrs to reach CBE.

The roads are absolutely fantastic till Chengapali. Take a left here is the cardinal rule. Do not hesitate.

I wil be coming back in that route. Will post details of the trip with guidance on this section from my experience.

Also the 5 speed braker warning given by one of out members was very useful. Those speed breakers are absolutely ridiculously placed. I just noticed that most of the side railings are gone or damaged. Feels stupid to have that crappy speed breaker on the slope down. Hill up may be is far easier to adjust and brake. But on the down hill........

The other option is : CBE-Sulur-Palladam-Kangeyam-Perunudurai. and then on NH47/NH7/NH46/NH4.

Nice roads all the way till you latch to GQ. Not much of a detour also.

The problem is NH67 from Karur to Trichy. Else NH67/NH45 would have been an amazing combo. NH67 till Karur is beautiful.
Its only beyond that, it breaks-out till Trichy. 4L work is on-going and hence the need to avoid as of today.

So is the Salem-Ulundurpet stretch of NH68 where 4L work is on-going.
