The Bangalore - Chennai Expressway

Did a ride today on the new section of the Blore - Chennai e-way. Rode around 73 kms from the Hoskote interchange till where the road ended just nearing V.Kota.

The stretch is more or less done and noticed that the locals use it. Very few vehicles as it is not officialy open. I wouldn't suggest using it either since any of the exits can be blocked. Add to that maintenance and construction vehicles parked on the road and moving in the wrong side.
Also noticed few of the over passes approach are caved in due to rains with the asphalting broken and they were working at those parts.

I only rode on the main carriageway and turned back once it ended, which was soon after the V.Kota exit.
The stretch seems to be ready with all the sign boards, lane markings and even the speed read outs working. Interesting feature I noticed was there are small boards on the left crash barrier every 100m showing the distance upto a km and then goes back to 100m. I think this is because there are huge boards in the centre median about the distance to keep between the vehicle ahead which is 360m. So it may as well be for the driver to know how much distance to maintain. The centre median is huge with a water storage set up every 10 kms or so probably to water the plants on the median.
Speed limit for cars showed 120 and buses 100 kmh.

Chennai seems really close on this route., but the big question is when will the full stretch be open.

Re: On Bypassing Bangalore

There is a lot of work pending on the AP section, especially around Palamaner. Even if they open the KA stretch, not sure how is it going to help. More importantly I would love to see the STRR exit to Hosur/Malur open up soon (even that is far away).

Another point to note: If the Chitoor-Thatchoor expressway opens up, thats another awesome way to connect North Chennai to the Banglaore-Chennai expressway at Chitoor. And with the Chennai Peripheral road getting laid from Thatchoor to Thiruvallur-Sriperumbudur, it would be great to see the full connected network come alive. Even this peripheral ring road should have an exit to this expressway.

Thanks for the update with nice pictures

Today’s Indian express newspaper had an article that mentioned the Karnataka side is expected to be open for traffic around November end or early December and should be usable for about 73Km from Hoskote to the AP border. It also mentioned that the temple issue 5km from Hoskote has been resolved and the temple has been shifted, road work is in progress on the small 400m stretch there.

Re: On Bypassing Bangalore

For towards Chennai, see no benefit until atleast Mogili interchange is ready. Mogili to Kothapalli interchange has progressed well. So not outlandish to wish, next phase opening could be till Kothapalli in few months(<6). That would be roughly half way of journey ready then.

For towards Salem, the opening will allow to use Malur interchange to proceed towards Shoolagiri, there on. Few welcome kms gained, time saved over the Hoskote interchange.

Re: On Bypassing Bangalore

Once the Chennai <> Bangalore expressway is ready, will it be easy to enter the Bangalore <>Mysore expressway from there?

If these expressways are connected, Chennai to Mysore drive will be much easy.

Short answer: No. Stick to Krishnagiri-Hosur-NICE for Mysore.

Long answer:
You'll have to take some effort to enter the completed KA section. From Pallikonda you'll have to take the Gudiyatham-Pernambut-V Kota to the entry.

Even then, the completed section of STRR is only 10 o clock to 2 o clock. That is between Dobaspete on Tumkur Road to Hoskote on Old Madras Road. Work is still going on the Hoskote-Malur-Hosur-Anekal section. There's one Hosur gent covering this section in Youtube. I don't see anything on the Anekal-Ramnagara section yet.

The new BCE section will only benifit those going towards Tumkur and further towards Pune/Bombay.

The KA section ends at Bethamangala, about 10 kms short of V Kota is what I remember.

I guess your question was if it will be eventually be connected through STRR? Then, the answer is yet. It may be some 3 years from now, but eventually you will be able to head from Chennai EWAY to STRR to Ramanagara and from there to Mysore road.

I guess they finished another 10 kms or so towards V.Kota recently. There is an interchange couple of kms before the road ends, to Mulabagal.
In the attached image, the purple dots show the spots I have taken pictures from. The bottom right dot is where the road ends currently after which there is a bridge under construction. The bottom left dot is where there is an interchange. The road is still not updated on the maps.

Do note is that the toll booth lanes are blocked as of now. Only two wheelers can squeeze through.

Yes thats the plan. Just before Hoskote you exit on to STRR cut through Hosur Road, Bannerghatta park, Kanakapura Road on to Mysore Expressway at Ramnagar.

Today from Bannergatta to Dobbaspet, the tenders have just been floated. It will be a quite some time, when this section of the STRR circle is complete.

There is a spur that will connect to Mulbagal bypass?

I think there is one built. I didn't go up the exit ramp to check if it connects to an existing road. On Apple maps, the new expressway is visible and there is a connecting road as well which connects to the V.Kota to Mulabagal higwhay.

Maps for comparison.

Which interchange is seen in photo #14 (#4 from bottom; showing 26 km to Baireddipalle)? It looks as though it is very close to KA-AP border.

It is the same one I was talking about in my previous post.
The road ends in 3-4 kms after that spot the picture was taken at, which I think is just before the border.

No. Post Kolar there is one at Sundarapalaya on SH95 and then one at Bareddipalle on the NH42 (Krishnagiri-Palanamer NH) and then one post Palamaner at Mogili. Only the one at Mogili connects to Old Madaras Road.

Re: On Bypassing Bangalore

Folks,

Any idea when this expressway will be fully completed ?

Eagerly looking forward to it.

However, what I hear is that realistic date is end of next year. Sad !
