Re: Hyderabad to Cochin route query

Hi guys, we are planning on travelling to Cochin (Ernakulam) in the second week of February (XUV 700 P AT) and were looking at route options on Google maps. As seen in the attached image, maps show two routes. Route 1 shows 20hrs while Route 2 shows 23hrs. So I am planning to take route 1, and maybe take a stopover in Krishnagiri. This is because we can only start after 10 a.m. on day 1 (don't ask) and need to check in at the place we are visiting on day 2. So I am thinking if the both of us drive, we can reach a layover hotel on day 1 by 10 p.m. (12hrs drive), have a night's rest, and start post-breakfast to Ernakulam (8hrs drive). Please suggest if Route 1 and my night-stop plan look good or if any better alternate routes are available.

Re: Hyderabad to Cochin route query

The route you selected is obviously best route. However based on your starting time, you will get hold of frustrating Bangalore ORR traffic in evening.

To avoid that, may be you can try halting somewhere near Bangalore Airport on day 1, and start early (by 5-6 AM) on day 2 before traffic starts to build up.

You have 2 advantages with this option

1. You will avoid Bangalroe traffic, by starting early from Bangalroe
2. You will get better and cheaper stay options near Bangalore airport compared to Krishnagiri.

Re: Hyderabad to Cochin route query

@Antony - Read and followed your suggestion, but late to reply. So we halted at one of the Nandi hills resorts for the night, after starting around 9AM from Hyderabad. We enjoyed the stay there, but started for Kodungallur at around 10AM. It took a proper 12-hour stint to get there, with a brief halt for lunch around Salem. Please share any ideas for the return leg to Hyderabad, with a good over night halt at Bangaluru.

Its the same idea. Try early start from Kerala to make it to a hotel at Devanahalli. Basically cut through all Bangalore traffic to reach the airport side. Take a good rest and start the next day.

While going to Hyd, you should actually clear the Bangalore hurdle and plan to stay on Hosur road for an early exit to Salem.

One year ago, I drove to Hyderabad from Ernakulam. Started from Ernakulam at 1.45 pm and halted at Hosur at around 10.30 pm. Had dinner at Sai Sangeet.

Next day started at 6 am, cut thru the city and reached Nandi Upachar at Devanahalli by 8 am. Then it was smooth drive till reaching Hyderabad at 4 pm with lunch halt at Amazon Kitchen.

Re: Hyderabad to Cochin route query

Hi,

Planning to drive from Kochi to Hyderabad on Friday. Plan is to start early on Friday from Kochi. Any recommendations for good locations to stay in between Bangalore and Hyderabad since, I guess should be able to pass Bangalore on day 1. The map shows a detour from before Hosur reaching Devanahalli, how are the roads from Hosur till Hyderabad.

Also in Hyderabad, which would be an ideal location to stay considering the old city visits and other tourist destinations. Can see many locations and the data from maps seems not to give a clear picture on the ease of commute from these locations (drive, metro, uber)

Regards
Ashique

You can refer this (On Bypassing Bangalore). If you are crossing Bangalore in early morning hours you can make it through the city, took us 2 hours for a 640 am start from Hosur.

We stayed at Gachibowli, which seemed the easiest to get in and stay.

To visit around Charminar, we parked our vehicle at Ameerpet metro. You can think in similar lines of staying near a metro.

Will be reaching Hosur only by evening, was thinking if reaching by around 3-4pm, then can continue to cover some more distance towards Hyderabad. Havent travelled this route, so looking for good town areas. Will check Anatpur.

Thanks, will check around these areas. There seems to be too many tourist places in Hyd, and on map it all seems at different directions. An ideal location will make commute easier.

You probably can go past Bangalore on day one. But I would still suggest to stay near Devanahalli (Bangalore exit on the Hyderabad highway just before the Airport turn off before the toll). There are bunch of decent places at this location. Start early the next day.
