Athirapally route query

Hi,
Planning to drive from Bangalore --> Athirapally -- > Valparai --> Munnar --> Bangalore in June . Need suggestions on if June is a good time and if this is doable in 7-8 days.

Also read about some recent elephant attacks near Athirapally , not sure if these are common occurrences. So will it be safe to drive on this route with family.

Any help here will be much appreciated.

Elephant sightings along the way from Athirapally to Malakkappara is very much common. Just take a little precautions while driving. That's all. There will be a decent number of people going along that route during the peak monsoon time.

Here is the link to my travelogue to Valparai (Honda CB 350 Ownership Review).

Re: Athirapally route query

It is recommended to visit Valparai first by traveling through Pollachi, then proceed to Athirapalli, and finally head to Munnar. From Munnar, take the Gap road to reach Poopara, then continue to Bodi, Theni, and return to Bangalore. The drive from Pollachi to Valparai is very scenic, passing through the ghats. The route from Valparai to Athirapalli goes through dense forests with poor mobile network coverage, where you might encounter elephants and other wildlife. Gap road to Pooppara is rated among the best drives in India. While going to Munnar from Athirapalli, you have the option of going through Kalady plantation and Malyattor. This is another scenic drive through forest and village roads, allowing you to avoid the national highway where roadwork and traffic jams are common. https://maps.app.goo.gl/K8mTyjaPMUokTFkq5

You can plan to spend 2 to 3 nights in Valparai, 1 night in Athirapalli, and the remaining nights in Munnar.

Re: Athirapally route query

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but here it goes. I am planning a road trip from Hyderabad to Kerala. Munnar and Alleppey are sure-shot locations on my bucket list. I would love to know if there are any hidden, underrated gems that can be visited in Kerala.

I am more of a nature guy, so historic places really don't interest me much. Any suggestions for scenic routes, hidden locations, underrated locations, and activities would be highly appreciated.

Given your love for nature, you might want to add Wayanad to your itinerary. You can drive from Hyderabad to Bangalore and then continue through Kabani, Nagarhole, or Muthanga, depending on which part of Wayanad you plan to visit

Please goto Valparai first as gadadhar suggested.

Kodaikkanal is kinda closer to Munnar and there is a road via vattavada. However, private vehicles cannot go via this route and nowadays only KL forest dept organises a Jeep drive for partial route in this road as part of tourism.

Anyway, what i would suggest you is , in return journey, from Munnar to Bangalore, you can add one night stop at Thekkady and go for boating and/or night walk. Also don't forget to buy spices in Kumily.
