i have been to Great outdoors with a group of 10 abt 3 years back
place was decent(they charged 1200 per head that time)

This place is a small island and the resort arranges for a return boat trip

we stayed in tented house,

the package consisted of dinner(they had set up camp fire, BBQ) BF, lunch and snacks

food was decent.(nothing great but ok..)

BTW, i had been to mangalore 2 days back..and its pouring over there.. i dont know about karwar..

if it rains, u might miss the fun...

Devbagh is a jungle resorts property.. Great outdoors is a privately owned resort(its a private island)

Perhaps you can find more information here

An Island Resort, Kurumgad Island, Off Karwar, Karnataka

Lohit, i enjoyed that trip(compared to 2K+ for devbagh, it was value for money)

more over, we were a group of 10..so we were having enough fun

also these guys have a small private beach(not very big..and bit deep too) and other games like volleyball(we took it to the beach, and made it beach volleyball)

overall, it was a pleasent experience

And yeah, i forgot to add..
we cud spot few dolphins too..which made this trip even more memorable..

These guys have some tie ups with the devbagh, so if u are interested in water sports, they take you over there

Re: Any good resorts in "Karwar" & "Goa"

Planning to do Bengaluru-Karwar trip after 24th Dec for a few days. The initial plan was to drive from Dharwad. Too many guests/visitors during pandemic in home town made me drop the plan to drive from Dharwad.

Son wants to visit naval museum and beach. Apart from that any good places to visit with pandemic related safety measures taking priority.

Which resorts / hotels, preferably beach side, are safe for a 4 days stay? Independent cottages preferable as the contact with other guests can be minimal?

Although it's a bit expensive (IMO), I can definitely recommend Devbagh Beach Resort run by Jungle Lodges & Resorts, based on my experience of 4-5 years ago. Do check out more recent reviews on TripAdvisor before you finalize your plans.

Re: Any good resorts in "Karwar" & "Goa"

A dear friend on mine runs a homestay near Kumta called Suragi http://suragi.in/ , we have stayed there multiple times and we have enjoyed our stay immensely and the added advantage being a Pure vegetarian homestay, access to Ayuervedic spa just acorss the road and most important - a pristine beach called Kadle beach which is again across the road.

Disclaimer: I know the owners for decades, but pls review publicly available reviews.

I have stayed in JLR in the past (Dandeli and Kabini) and would have been first choice during normal times but bit hesitant now as they conduct group activities. Though they have reduced the prices, still on the upper side I felt.

I visited Devbag Beach Resort in July this year. ( with family ). It’s the typical JLR standards.

A few points. :

1. The rooms are jaded a bit , but nothing that can be discomforting.
2. During July , they were cleaning the room twice a day and changing the linen and towels as well.
3. They were strictly following masks, social distancing as well. They were not allowing us to use the ladles also in the buffet.
4. Food is again typical JLR standards. It’s not something we can indulge in , but it’s comfort food
5. NO group activities. The boat ride to the Snorkel place was also stopped because snorkelling isn’t something that they wanted to entertain during the pandemic
6. They helped set up a lovely fire place on the beach and were eager to serve drinks and dinner on the beach. That was a welcome change. We loved it.
7. The village / fishermen never used to walk through the property before , but we saw them this time. Maybe because the property had not seen guests for months due to Covid

If you are used to the JLR prior , this would be nice. It’s a quiet place. No crowds. And their people are friendly with a service orientation. We had no reasons to complain and it was a welcome change for us after being locked down.
