Bombay to Kerala

Hi all
Planning a trip during Dec from Bombay to Kerala and back. Did this last year as well but went on by instincts and signboards mostly!!! Ended up in lot of confsions though!!! Truckers came in of lot of help most of the time!Well, this was the route we took last year, 15 days:
Mumbai-->Bangalore-->Coimbatore-->Palakkad-->Thrissur-->Pollachi--> Palani-->Kodaikanal-->Munnar-->Kothamangalam-->Kanjirappalli--> Kottayam-->Kollam-->Aleppy-->Cochin-->Thrissur-->Calicut--> Mangalore--> Karwar-->Goa-->Kolhapur-->Pune-->Mumbai

I know this wasnt the best routes though...Due to popular demand,weather etc we are taking the stretch again this year with 12 people, 2 weeks and 3 cars.The additions would be Thekkady and Masinagudi. These are the things I would want to know:

1.We started at 5am and reached Bangalore by 11pm then. Many stretches were really bad specially in Karnataka. Are the roads done or are they in same conditions? Are there any alternatives you guys could suggest?

2. Which is the best to do - Bombay-Panvel-Goa-Banglore or Bangalore-Goa-Bombay? We did a big mistake by taking NH 17 last time.. Mad private buses, Kerala-Mangalore-Goa stretch was horrible. Most of the road was non motorable.

3. Bangalore-Thrissur... NH 47 or NH 212 (Mysore-Nilambur route) ?

NH-4 is the fastest. But for a stretch between Hubli and Chitradurga, the roads are almost complete. RTech recently did a Bangalore-Mumbai (in 12 hours, but that was on a VFR800), and he lost couple of hours on bad patches.

47 is in a very very bad state. Take the Mysore route: single lane but less traffic, and better roads. I took under 4 hours to Bangalore from Calicut via Sultan' Battery > Gundalpet.

Point noted.Finalising on NH4 till Bangalore and may be we'll take a break for a day or 2. From there as determinus suggested will take Mysore route. Out here we are planning to get into Masinagudi spend a day or 2 and then hit Munnar via Oooty. I havent taken that route though... What do you guys think? From Munnar we intend to hit Cochin.. Thanks again guys...
