Re: Bijapur - Hospet - Bangalore

The shortest I can think:

Bangalore-Tirupati-Pileru-Madanapalle-Kadiri-Anantpur-Bellary-Hospet-Bijapur.

But I am not aware of the road and Naxal conditions on the Madanapalle-Bijapur sector. Only HVK should be able to comment.

But be sure that N13 from Hospet to Bijapur would be in shambles. (NH13 continues to be bad).

EDIT:

The other longer option (about 100 Km longer) is going via Bangalore.

Re: Bijapur - Hospet - Bangalore

@Ramanan, Bijapur-Hospet & further down towards Chitradurga is bad for most part. The ore carrying trucks are mostly off the roads, but the roads have not changed.

Chennai, Tamil Nadu to Bijapur, Karnataka - Google Maps
Thanks Ampere. Everytime, you come for rescue when it comes to route queries. Great job

Thanks Condor for the quick response.

How about going through Hubli - Hospet(NH63) - Bijapur, though it is longer?. If no roads are drivable in that region, I feel it would be better to put off taking own vehicle and resort to public transport.

Re: Bijapur - Hospet - Bangalore

Public transport is much better option. You have the Amravathi (17225) express from Hubli to Vijayawada, which goes via BellaryHospet through Guntakal. You can board this train at Vijayawada (It starts from there.) Hitting Vijayawada is very easy from Chennai.

You can get down at Hospet and Hampi is 25 km away! Not sure of buses around Hampi that would take you to Bijapur.

But if your first target is Bijapur, then need to re-check.

EDIT: As @Condor said the route from Hubli is better as NH218 is in a much better condition. From Hubli, you should get buses very easily.

Re: Bijapur - Hospet - Bangalore

Hubli- Hospet - Bijapur is a little better, more because of the shorter distance. You will hence suffer a little less. Hire a cab. Dont torture your car.

Re: Bijapur - Hospet - Bangalore

I did these routes on Dec 22nd - 23rd 2010 in my car. Was doing Bijapur - Badami - Paddakal - Aihole - Hospet - Humpi - Doraji - Bellary - Bangalore etc.

If you are going to Bijapur from Hospet on NH 13, which seems to be the only option to get out of Hospet towards Bijapur, first 50 odd KM from Hospet towards Bijapur is "Non Motorable" ( I repeat, Non Motorable) by cars. If you have a sedan / Saloon, serious bottom scrapping can't be avoided plus a good torture to the suspension.

After this 50 km ordeal, what one can do it take the Aihole, Paddakal, Badami route to reach NH 218 and from there Bijapur, all through pretty good roads. Although after Badami till you each NH 218 ( 20 KM) is also pretty bad.

Re: Bijapur - Hospet - Bangalore

Then the logical choice seems to be:

- Keep Hubli as the Pivot (come from Chennai/Vijayawada by train)
- Up/Down to Bijapur from Hubli via NH218 (218 is in good condition as per some of the logs, I read)
- Badami/Pattadakal can also be visited via the same route
- Once back to Hubli go to Hospet (not much of an ordeal as distance would be small). Visit Hampi.
- Board train at Hospet for return.

Re: Bijapur - Hospet - Bangalore

Finally decided to take Didi ke Train service, much reliable & absolutely no torture to people & pet(vehicle).
Thanks everyone for your valuable comments.

Go for it ! Travelled Hospet -Bangalore earlier this year, and is a beautiful road now. 4 lane with divider. Not the old stretch from a few years back.

off-topic:
Btw, next time I go that route, I will be trying this place:
https://goo.gl/maps/UhB6kRNzUfWziKrj9

It is about 50km from Chitradurga. Said to have nice, organic food.

Nothing different than what is documented in this thread.

Besides there is weekend curfew in KA border districts with MH and KL, according to the latest state directive.
