I went to Basar(Basara) after Nizamabad 2 years ago. I travelled to Nizamabad(~160-170Km) in the month of Nov'07.

For Nizamabad, take the NH7 and follow till Dichpally. After Dichpally, the road divides . You need to take the left turn that goes towards Nizamabad. For Basar, you need to take the Bodhan route from Nizamabad(will confirm). In between, the road to Basara diverts when going from Nizamabad to Bodhan.

Basically, you need to go to Nizamabad and then to Basara.

Take NH7 for about 160km, at which point the road splits and NH7 continues toward Adilabad/Nagpur. Take the left fork toward Nizambad.
Drive through the town toward Bodhan, after about 15km, there's a right turn toward Basar. I believe there's another 25 or so km to get to Basar from this turn.

Any idea about the condition of the roads. I went last year same time and the roads were fantastic. I covered the to and fro distance in 7.5 hours including the darshan at the temple.

Mobike008, you are leaving tomorrow. So have fun, and drive safe. Do post a travelogue when you return. I know you will have 3 travelogues to post this month, if you go by your plan !!

I completed my trip to Basar on Saturday. Even though it was no joyous trip as the purpose of the trip was different, we didn't even visit the temple. Therefore, a travelogue for such a trip would be rather in appropriate. However, i can give some feedback on the roads.

I would say it was not a breeze as i thought it would be ( i did the same trip last year almost same time-Jan 15th'07). To my luck, after Kamareddy, there is a railway track that went kaput ( problem with the tracks and the pole not opening) and they were repairing it. There was a huge pile of of vehicles and the police folks made us detour through a small village ( about 7-8kms detour) which took us more than an hour to come back on to the highway.

On the return trip, same problem and i took a detour and was following a couple of smaller trucks blindly as we went through some extremely small, dusty, sometimes scenic villages and after a 1.5 hours of driving through fields, villages came on to the highway ( whew, i was thinking that detour would never end).

Also, there is road widening is happening all through until Nizamabad so i wouldn't say it was a great and smooth experience. The top speed i could do was only 150kmph ( my mom was shocked out of her wits as she happened to glance at the speedo just at that moment)

Started from Home: 12:00pm
Reached Basar: 4:30pm
Left Basar : 5:15pm
Reached back Home: 9:30pm

Distance traveled: 460km
Mileage: 17.5kmpl ( 90% AC- with huge amounts of time idling on the highway in the traffic jams)

At the end of the day, my mom named the day as TJD ( Traffic Jam Day ! )

How good is progress on NH7 widening? All the way from Hyderabad work is on? Do you expect early completion?

After that awesome road from Hyd until Medchal/Toopran town, the road widening work is happening in full gusto. I expect it should complete in 3-6 months.

For those of you who might not have the time to drive down to Basar [from Hyderabad], but intend to have a darshan of Goddess Saraswati, the Wargal Saraswati temple is a closer alternative. About 15 Kms from Shamirpet on the Rajeev Rahadaari (Karimnagar Highway) , you need to take a left turn off the highway onto a single laned road ( An arch on the entrance of this road serves as indication, that this is the road to the temple). About 7 to 8 Kms drive on this road will lead you onto a small hillock where you need to park your vehicle and climb up a flight of steps which will take you to the Saraswati temple built on top of the hillock.

Its a small temple - neat and clean, with good views of the countryside all around. Worth a drive.
