OK then, I will call up my cousin and tell them that I will be staying with them AND leave sometime in the morning. The only downside is that if I leave at 6 am, I will reach Coimbatore at 1pm, and might as well continue on to Kochi . . .that would be a 10 hour journey . . . . but that appears to be my only choice for my first long drive.

Thanks to all.
Common Yaar, everybody has their first time
Start at 5AM, rest at Kochi in the evening...Enjoy the route and the drive...make sure you take the detour into Mettur - Bhavani route...

Hi,

> This is the closest to answering my question at the start of the thread, unless > some specific addresses can be found for Bhavani/Mettur Dam.

Erode is a 19km detour towards the left (coming from Bangalore) at a small town called Perundurai (between 15 and 20 kms) after Bhavani on the NH47.

Le Jardin and the Oxford are near to each other and owned by the same group. Le Jardin is new and the veg food in both the plaves are good. Both places have limited parking spaces, though.

The drive from Bangalore to Cochin can be easily done if you start off from Bangalore early.

About 9kms before Palakkad, there is Walayar Motels on the left (coming from Bangalore) for lunch. Food is good. Kerala government run AAram motels are available before and after the Walayar Motel. There is another new Hotel on the left a few kms before Walayar Motels which is also good.

Head Straight To Cochin

Hai,

Like everyone has suggested, start out early from Bangy, head straight to Cochin.

The Mettur CBE route is best. The CBE BP is a breeze, it would be a pain to get in and out of CBE. In case you want to rest for the night, option can be found inside Palakkad Town, somewhere near HPO / Sultanpet, near Govt. Hosp / Fort Maidan etc., that way your detour would not be too much from the NH. Mor infro or confusion ?

Happy Driving,

Well if you are worried about getting tired the following few tips might help.

1. Get a good nights sleep and leave from Bangalore by 6:00am tops. This will help in getting out of the city faster.
2. Dont consume alcohol the night before the drive.
3. Carry plenty of water and some light dry snacks. Drink lots of water while driving especially if have the A/c on. This will lead to a slightly more number of breaks but that is good.
4. Take a coffee break every couple of hours. Stop the vehicle, get down and stretch your legs. For me coffee actually helps on long drives.
5. If possible have a backup driver.
6. Have some company with you to keep you from getting bored and the drive turning monotonous. Helps to have a chatterbox wife or girlfriend :-)

Have fun, drive safe and have a great trip.

In case you decide to do the stretch in a single day (10 - 11 hours of day time driving), and want a break around Walayar, I suggest a hotel just after the walayar check post it is a veg only hotel, with a few rooms. Last time we used the restaurant was around 2 years back. Clean and neat, good food but we only have breakfast from there.

Thanked: Once

Due to family pressures and the fact that I got the owner's manual yesterday, I have decided to postpone my Kerala car trip by 5 months.
Family pressure because my family was not in favour of taking a brand new car on a long drive.
Owner's manual because the first scheduled engine oil change is only after 6 months (or in the unlikely case that I cover 10000km before 6 months). I had thought that the first engine oil change would be after the first month (or 1000km) reassurance checkup. Due to bad reports of Sundaram Service center in this forum, I have decided to keep my relation with them to the minimum.

I will post back my adventure as and when it happens to this thread. Thanks to all.

To go to Erode when you are coming from Bangalore, take the left immediately after Bhavani. From Bhavani it is 13kms to Erode.
