Try avoiding the regular tourist spots at Ooty and you'll feel comfortable. Temperatures in the evening are better at Ooty than Coorg.

I guess you are mentioning about Mysore - Gundlupet road work. It's almost done now, apart from couple of smaller sections no issues. |
Yes - thank you. Thought it is still going on.
Just back from Coonoor. Avoid Ooty if possible. Too many traffic restrictions in the city due to election time.

Just curious - how much of the ring road of Mysore is completed and functional now? Can anyone share the sketch of the proposed/completed ring road intersecting the major highways out of Mysore?

It is complete now.
Gmaps route in clockwise and anticlockwise from Columbia asia signal on NH275 towards Ooty/Calicut road.

I have taken the clockwise route while approaching Mysore from Bangalore. The road is fully complete. Though its a bit lengthy, you can reach Mysore airport from Columbia asia hospital junction in about 20mins. This is shorter than the anticlockwise route if you are heading towards Nanjangud.
Hi all,
I am driving to Bandipur next week. Which is the best option, given current road conditions? Is Mysore-Gundlupet road work complete? How is Mysore - Nanjangud? Or should I take Kanakapura road instead?
Thanks in advance

If you are comfortable in driving 2L roads, i would suggest to go with Kanakapura road as first option. However, if you are particular about food and not so comfortable in 2L roads, take Mysore route.

Mysore route is easy and straightforward, but start early say 5am or thereabouts. Most eateries open by 6.45am. You can even have breakfast at Kamat Madhuvan near the palace and that's the beginning of the Najangud road as well. There is some widening work between Mysore and Najangud but should be manageable. From Najangud continue straight to Gundlupet and Bandipur (don't turn right after Gundlupet as that's the road to Sulthan Bathery on Kerala side).
Alternate route is Bangalore-Kanakapura-malavalli-kollegal-chamarajanagar-gundlupet-bandipur. You can break at Nijaguna Residency Chamarajanagar.

As part of the construction work going on, I remember seeing a very clear sign boards newly setup in that Junction at Gundlupet which gives directions to Bandipur (Straight) and Sulthan Bathery/Wayanad/Kalpetta (Right turn).

Just back from Ooty in my Ertiga. The road from Mysore to Nanjangud is under road widening and lots of diversion, folks are requested to take the outer ring road to avoid the frequent slow down.
Then till gundulpet the road is very good. From Gundulpet to Bandipur single road but very good. From Bandipur to Ooty via Masinagudi the road in the forest are good with speedbreakers. You will see lots of deers along the road. The 36 hairpin bends roads are also good.
Ooty is very crowded as it is peak season. There are some traffic restrictions at Charring Cross but no roads have been digged. Also you don't find any election fever.
All tourist spots are very crowded. Avoid Weekends.

By taking Mysore outer ring road, will it help avoid entire Mysore-Nanjangud stretch ? I think the ring road on either side of Columbia Asia hospital signal will you to somewhere just after the Palace and Kamat Madhuvan hotel on the Nanjangud Road, but there is still a long way to go for Nanjangud, what am I missing ? :)

I wanted to go to the Mysore Zoo while returning from Ooty. When I reached the Junction from where it is mentioned Zoo 4 Kms , i took the Outer Ring road for the Zoo. In this way I avoided the diversions and the slowdowns.

Had taken Bangalore - Mysore - Kamat Madhuvan - Nanjanguad road till Mysore ORR - Right turn towards Mananthavady road last Saturday.
The reason why there is a mention above to take Mysore ring road may be to avoid part of road widening work ongoing near Mysore I guess.
There is lots of deviations and road work ongoing near Mysore - Mysore Airport stretch, you can avoid part of this by taking ring road and joining near Airport.
Also, NH 212 section near Bandipur forest entry at KA - KL border on Calicut road has a toll booth coming up. So once the road work on Mysore - Ooty section gets over, we can expect similar toll booth on this road too.
