Thanks Kala and Ravib. That is very encouraging. 3 pm at NICE toll to 8.30 pm at Ooty is amazing.

BTW, what is your ride ? The timing also depends on the car you drive. :)

Irrespective of whether you drive a Verna or Maruti 800, do not overspeed based on the vehicle capability. Driving at around 85 kmph on a consistent basis is much better than zipping at 100+. Of course when you consider the road to Ooty (Via Mysore, Bandipur) you will not be able to touch high speeds.
So plan to leave early and drive safely.

I vaguely recollect someone mentioning about a new eat out (other than Nijaguna) somewhere on Kanakpura -> Chanmrajnagar -> Gundelpet stretch, but I am unable to recollect any details. Please enlighten if any of you are aware.

There is a new Nijaguna in Gundlupet but if you take the Chamarajnagar route, you will need to turn right when you merge with NH212 at Gundlupet and then drive for about 1Km. It is near the CCD and Hotel Misty Rock/DeShell restaurant.
Other than this, the usual ones are Vasu Hotel (darshini type) at Kanakapura, Gokul at Kanakapura (not open for breakfast), Srinivas Sagar again at Kanakapura - details here

Thanks NPV. Probably it would have been the new Nijaguna in Gundlupet my friend mentioned. Not keen on the darshinis since clean washrooms is a must.

FYI, the absence/lack of pit-stop options at kanakpura route/town, seem to have ended with coming up of this Sangam Restauant, location & details are here. It stands out relative to other spartan options enumerated above.

Got fine feedback/recommendation of Sangam from a friend who had been there twice. Second best could be Gokul, I stopped there once, they have an AC section, a private parking in basement and is on main road, yet not in core market area.

Planning to go to Mysore from Bangalore tomorrow. (Saturday). Starting around 8 AM. Can someone tell me how crowed Kamat Lokurachi ?. ( I had been to there long ago. there was a mad rush). Any other decent place nearby?. ( other than adigas, anand bhavan )

Kamat Lokaruchi is generally crowded for seating & parking, is on other side of road, and relatively less effortless to stop-by. There are two more Kamats further ahead on drive-hand side, if you are preferring a Kamat, and 3rd/last one is along with McDonald and is most mid-way types option to Mysore.

Two food courts are there too - Right-O & Bestins-break, with A2B in later.

All shall be prominent enough to not miss, with 'arriving/ahead' boards usually.

Terrible traffic in Ooty due to flower show. Took a colleague 2 1/2 hours from Fingerpost to Ooty, a distance normally done in 10/15 minutes. Please avoid altogether or plan accordingly!!

Another huge traffic jam yesterday (attributed to the flower show) for about 4 hours, it was apparently more than 10 Km long :Shockked:

Badly written article. Does not say on which road the jam is. (I'm guessing Mysore road, since it talks about Bangalore residents). Does not try to verify facts. Just hearsay.
Also, I'm certain that the jam cannot be only because of the flower show. I agree tourist traffic overflows at this time, but there are several smaller roads from the Mysore road where the traffic could have been diverted to.
Should have been some other incident.

Also, I am not able to view any news article regarding this on the Coimbatore version of Indian Express.

Did Bangalore - Mysore- Gundlupet section (enroute to Calicut) on 20 May morning (Friday). Started from Bellandur at 04:30 and was able to reach Mysore in 2.5 hours after taking NICE road.

From Mysore to Nanjangaud road work is ongoing, expect lots of deviations. Good news is that they have widened roads till Nanjangaud with median unlike the roads from Nanjangaud to Gundlupet. Once done, I hope this will considerably save time since this section used to be the busiest in Mysore - Gundlupet.

Past Nanjangaud deviations are minimal and road work is almost done.

Even with the deviations I was able to Mysore - Gundlupet in around 50 mins, faster compared to earlier average time of around an hour.

Just got back from my trip to Ooty. Took the Kanakpura-Gundlupet-Masinagudi route. Started from Bomasandra at 2.15 pm and reached Ooty before 8 pm. Some route update as below:

Bangalore - Kanakpura: narrow 2 lane road but in very good condition; however expect medium to heavy traffic especially HCV traffic

Kanakpura-Gundlupet:
Post Kanakpura, traffic eases out but road continues to be 2 lane good roads.
Kolegal and Charajnagar:, the route passes right thru villages and there is heavy movement of pedestrians as well as 2-wheelers. They walk around casually and carelessly and it is your responsibility to be careful and not bang into them.
Chamrajnagar-Gundlupet stretch is not very smooth with pot holes and cracks but nothing that really needs to be worried about.
Gundlupet-Masinagudi-Ooty: Post Gundlupet, you are once again on NH and the road is fabulous, scenic beauty is out of the world and if you are lucky, you can spot some wild life also.
