New Woodlands hotel in Dr.R.K.Salai is a fantastic place and would be within your budget. It is just down the road from the US Embassy. However, its not within walkable distance from the Embassy. You have 2 nice (veg only) restaurants in this hotels and your food will be taken care.

My office is the adjacent building to this hotel and so do PM me if you are going to stay here. We will try to catch up.
If you ask a auto-walah to take you to US Embassy, he will ask you 50 bucks. But if you ask for Gemini flyover (also called as Anna flyover) he will charge you 30/35 bucks. Btw, forgot to mention US Embassy is situated just where Gemini flyover is.
Reason for this double standards: Man, you are going to Embassy which means you are going to US and you are rich :Frustrati

In fact it is just not reccomended to stay in any of the BAR-attached in hotels in Kerala. After 6 in the evening, the hotels turn into a nightmare. |
agree: About a year back we stayed at a hotel called "Chembarathy" in Taliparamba (The Neon signboard of the hotel says "Chem
BARathy" with the "BAR" in Red), and the hotel was OK except for the excess traffic after 6 PM. And we found my brother-in-law's car's windows to be shattered in the morning (The car was parked within the closed gates of the hotel) - no attempt at theft since even his car stereo was intact - looked like some late-night reveller was just trying to have some fun smashing car windows !!! :Frustrati
I am planning to stay in Coimbatore for a day in August. I would like to know a good hotel (am with family) near the airport.

@ampere,t hank for your prompt response. My budge is around 1000-1500. I did come across a few hotels which were around 10-12 kms from the airport, but was looking for something a bit more closer, if possible.
Calling out to keralite BHPians for help!
We are travelling to kollam and kovalam next weekend.
We are staying in kollam for two days, one day in club mahindra backwater retreat ashtamudi. since we could not get reservations for the previous day(had already booked the bus) , we need to stay in another hotel in kollam. Pls suggest good hotels in kollam ~ planning to do the Munroe island tour and also visit thangassery , so will be out most of the day. I saw some hotels
nani hotels and resort
hotel central park
hotel nila palace
ktdc tamarind
But all the places have mixed reviews
Also need suggestions for good vegetarian restaurants in kollam and kovalam(heard that bethel and suprabhatham are good here. Will be staying in Uday samudra. which has around 3 restaurants). Need not be a pure veg only restaurant, but they need to serve vegetarian food :D
Any suggestions would be welcome.

Suggest two that are not in your list.
1.Hotel Sudarshan - centrally located and caters to your needs of veg. food. Not far from the the other veg hotels that you have listed.
2. The Beach Orchid - Very scenic since facing the beach. Do not expect much on service not very sure of veg. food but a few kilometers (~1) you could get veg.
Cheers and enjoy your trip!
We went to Chikmagalur on Saturday last and stayed in this pretty Home stay. Prakash and Pallavi - our graciuos hosts - have built this with lot of eye for aesthetic details in their estate. It is close to town but tucked away in their estate providing one serene surroundings!
You have to drive for three KMs through estates after reaching Kaimara junction - the place where the road turns towards Bababudan Giri - to reach the place. Good and spaciuos rooms - we stayed in a dupleix room (apt for large family) - both inside the main baungalow and out side. There are three rooms outside and two inside. Food is very good. Here are some pics and website.
The place has plenty of birds for birders and Pallavi who is a bonsai expert has a huge collection of Bonsais!!

The dupleix room
Ravi, our friend, on the neat bed!
The Verandah or sit out - look at ornate door ways!!
Sample birds
Bonsai collection!!

nice pics - dont you also have pics of surrounding area....landscapes etc..
+1 to volkman10. Hotel Sudarshan and BeachOrchid are good options.
While the former is in the town centre (near KSRTC bus-stand, railyway station etc), the latter is at Kollam beach.
We had been to Tamarind to have food, but never stayed there.
From the boat-jetty near KSRTC bus-stand, you can catch any of the commuter ferries too and for just a few rupees, get a good round of the backwaters.
Hotel: Whistling Palms Resort
Place: Harne beach, Dapoli, Konkan coast

Whiistling Palms
* Fantastic sea view from all rooms. This resort is almost on the beach.
* Clean rooms, with TV. They also provide a cloths hanger in every room. Balconies open towards the sea.
* Prices range from Rs. 2100 through Rs. 3000 per night. Higher for their top floor suite.
* Generator backup, so no issue with electricity.
* In-house veg/non-veg restaurant serving tea, b'fast, lunch, and dinner. Excellent food.
* The beach opp. this resort is secluded, and empty always, so no rush.
Lovely place to spend a weekend. Recommended, especially for the good food, and clean rooms.
We stayed at the YWCA Anandagiri complex,Ooty last week. A very old place, but well maintained and comfortable. Located just opposite to the race course and most places are accessible by walk from here. Paid Rs 1150.00 per day for a deluxe room. Deluxe just means you have a TV and an attached bathroom with running hot water. But I loved the old world charm of the place.
