Greetings.
I have a planned holiday in goa next week. Almost every year we go by road.
Last year following this same thread I travelled via karad>malkapur>amba ghat>watul>nh66. I want to avoid anuskura ghat as travelling with family.
Could anyone share if this route is still in drivable condition? Last year this route was almost pristine at around the same time of year.
Thanks in advance. :thumbs up
Hi all,
I have to travel from Navi Mumbai to South Goa in Thursday. Should I go via Pune route or the route in the screenshot below?
I have an option to stay at Pune for Wednesday night and then continue my journey to South Goa on Thursday morning.
Thanks.

I am planning to drive down to Goa.Is the road repair work on the Ajara Sawantwadi stretch complete? Is it advisable to take this route given the number of diversions from Karad onwards?
For a change, I took Amboli route instead of Anuskura, this time.
From highway to Amboli, the road is very good now.
From Satara to Nipani/Sankeshwar, highway is bad. Multiple diversions slows you down. It should take at least 2 years to complete.

Which route do you suggest is best for a relaxing drive from Pune to Goa based on current conditions?
If you need quieter and better road -via Anuskura.

Do monsoon rains in Konkan alter this suggestion? I am traveling this weekend.

Monsoon rains in Konkan actually enhances the amazing beauty of Anuskura ghat. The views are splendid. Enjoy your drive. Memories for lifetime lol:
The view is indeed beautiful, but what about the road condition? Generally, during, and after, the monsoons the road develop potholes and wearing of the surface. Is the road still driveable? Would like updates on the road condition as the monsoon progresses.

The route now for bulk of amba ghat is in a bad state since the hills are being cut at many places making the road 4 laned. Till the beginning of amba ghat and immediately after taking left from end of ghat towards watul conditions are very good same as last year. I will return via oni-anuskura ghat. Hoping it will not be broken or having fallen rocks.

update, I skipped anuskura as google maps still showed possible road closures. Went via the traditional amboli-ajra-nipani-nh48 route. Road till nipani is almost perfect. NH48 has lot of diversions between kolhapur and karad. But it was still drivable - and the bonus being having access to lots of new and old stopovers for food and breaks.

Hi, I took the route through Pune-Karad-Anuskura Ghat- Oni-Panjim. While going it was a weekday so this route was okay even with the diversions till Karad. But while returning it was a Sunday and the roads after Karad, with traffic and diversion cocktail, had become a nightmare. I think instead of taking a right from Oni while returning from Goa, one could go straight, which was what Google maps suggested as a default option and it was around 40 minutes faster too. I recommend you to take this route in case you are travelling on a weekend.
All that said, the lush green meadows made up for the time lost.

Google Maps is showing the NH66 (Old Mumbai Goa Highway - about a 10 Hr run starting at 5 am) over Anuskura for the Mumbai-Goa route, any idea of the current road conditions on NH66?

I traveled on NH66 & Anuskura Ghat about 3 months ago. NH66 is all 4 lane and fabulous.
