Is there any recent update regarding the Sholapur - Sangli - Nipani - Amboli route? I will be coming from Hyderabad.

Drove from Goa to Kolhapur today in 4:30 hrs. Right after getting off Goa highway till Amboli ghat, it was patchy road for about 45mins and was frustrating. Rest of the road is good till BLR-PUN highway. Extremely heavy rains while passing Amboli but a thrilling experience. Spotted quite a few TS (or TG :) ) vehicles on this stretch.

Travelled from Pune to Goa on 14th August and returned on 18th August. Route taken to and fro was from Anuskura ghat, onward to Oni and from there towards North Goa via Banda. The road quality is decent till Karad - ensure to take the right turn immediately after Karad McDonalds by taking the service road there - Google incorrectly asks to take the highway. After Karad, the road quality is excellent, but there are unmarked speed breakers including those on NH66, so be careful there.

While returning from Goa, before turning right for ghat section, the road was closed and Google was routing it through a nearby village. However, ensure to drive on the wrong side for 250 meters - this is officially allowed (diversion boards are placed but not clearly visible) - and then take a right turn to avoid the longer route. In case you are going to Goa via Anuskura ghat, this is the route you will take - so remember it during the return journey.

The diversions on NH48 are bad, especially during return from Goa made worse with potholes - it took 8 hours (including 1 hour break) to go to Goa and 9.5 hours (no break) for the return journey - so 2.5 hours extra due to daytime traffic, diversions and potholes.

A fun fact at the end - saw car registration plates for 14 different states!!

Unless you have a preference to drive the Anushkura ghat section (also check on the landslide news posted in the previous post), you can also try taking the exit towards Pali after Khalapur toll plaza, onwards to Pali and then Mangaon where you will join NH66. This road (NH66) will have some diversions and bad patches but is also a good option for those travelling from Mumbai.

How safe is this route? I am travelling with a toddler and a few friends advised against it due to lack of facilities along the route.

The route is safe. It's just that there is ongoing work at multiple places throughout the route and limited number of good rest stops along the way. The positives of this route is no toll on the entire stretch and the route does pass through some beautiful sections. If you do decide to go via this route, please ensure to use Kashedi tunnel. There is a half closed exit for this and if you miss it you will have to suffer a long stretch of broken and uneven road.

Since you are travelling witha toddler, I am assuming you will need frequent stops along the way. So would suggest you go via Pune route which though longer has multiple viable rest stops along the way. Hope this helps.

NH66 does not have facilities at the level of the Pune Bangalore highway. There are hotels and eateries all along the route but clean toilets and hygiene could be an issue.

Safer to take the Pune Bangalore highway with its known stop places.

Hi Everyone
Does anyone have any idea about current status of Anuskura Ghat road? I have to travel to Goa from Mumbai on this Saturday and wanted to finalize the route for the same. Last news I had heard for this was that 1 way road is in operation.

Hello All,
Can anyone advise the status of the Chorla Ghat? I am planning to drive from Mumbai to Goa. The route option is Mumbai-Karad-Anuskura Ghat-Goa or Mumbai-Belagavi-Chorla Ghat- Goa. Which would be a better option?

Travelling with my wife and daughter and heading to South Goa.

Thanks for the advise.

I just did the trip from Mumbai to Goa yesterday 6th. Mumbai - Pune Bypass (need to find another route to avoid as traffic is heavy) Karad - Anskura - Rajapur - Oni - North Goa. The road from Karad to Goa was very good. The un-marked rumblers being the spoil sport. A few rough patches but generally very nice and scenic.

This is not the case anymore. Kashedi tunnel now is well connected to NH66 from both sides. So there is no way anyone will miss it.
