Rahi Coral near Calangute. 4 people in 1 room, around 1200 per night. Good place.

Go by car.

Hotel Kinara, Chimbel. This is a very low key local joint. If you eat there once, you'll never eat anywhere else, trust me!

From Panjim (don't enter the city) take the "low" road that goes towards Old Goa. This road is almost at sea level, with the Mandovi on your left. At the end of this road, ( sort of a Y junction) to your right, you'll see a "NO ENTRY" sign. Just besides that, to the right (almost like a hairpin), a tiny gully-like road goes into a village.

Follow this road for a couple of kms and you'll see Hotel Kinara to your right. It's a house-like structure with the restaurant on the first floor.

Must haves:
Chanak Rawa/Masala fry
Prawns Rawa/Masala fry
Crab Masala / Curry

Damn! I wanna go too!!!

Thanks guys. Just booked our Volvo Tickets for both ways. The hotel is now the only point of debate.

Here's listing it again:
People: 6
Number of rooms required: Not more than 2
Budget per person per night: Rs. 1000 without food.
Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner NOT going to be at this hotel!
Swimming pool: Needed
Villa: Like the one at Sterling Vagator will be preferred.
Proximity to the beach: Personally prefer Baga/Calangute/Vagator/Anjuna

Check out Ronil Royale on the main Baga Road. A little ahead of CCD, just before the Tito's lane.
I'm sure it meets your criteria.
Has a swimming pool and a twin sharing room should be between 1200-1600.
Do a google search; i think they have a site.
Enjoy!

Ronil is very good. Stone's throw away from Cavala BTW.

I had a look at Cavala once and found it pretty overpriced. Didn't like the rooms much either. The facade looks awesome though. Even their restaurant is BLOODY overpriced.
For a real budget hotel, there's Hotel Hacienda, almost bang opp. CCD.
If I'm staying in the north, I usually stay at Hotel Arabian Retreat at Candolim. Nice clean place, comfy and very reasonable; no swimming pool though.

Near Mambos

Frank, once you move ahead from tito's to the sea, the road turns around enveoping mambos, and it leads to some a property owned by some Canadian people, cant remeber the name, its the hop-skip-not even a jump to Baga. Very basic, and if you bargain hard it should come below 1000. But if you are looking to take some back to your place then you wil need to go to their place.
Enjoy your Holiday
