Commuting within Delhi

Hi guys,
I am reaching Delhi next month for a medical reason for someone within the family. We will be 7 of us and would like to know the best mode of commutation within Delhi. We will be in delhi for about 5 days.

I searched for AVIS and HERTZ rental and it is coming to 1100 per day for a small car and almost 2500 for an innova. Is this the cheapest option available? Please let me know.

Get a car with drive. An innova costs 8rs/km for the same and is much cheaper option than self drive. Moreover you do not have to worry about losing your way etc.,

In case your commuting would be limited to Delhi/NCR.. suggest using local private Taxi Service (near your place of stay). They charge Rs. 500-550 for a 8 hr/ 80km per day (whatever comes earlier) including the driver. Let me know what place you'd be staying in Delhi and if it's in my reach.. I can definitely arrnge something for you.

There are a couple of options:

- A chauffer driven AC qualis from any local taxi stand. Should cost you 10rs a km (min 80 km in a day are chargeable)

- Pay as you go cabs (suitable for upto 4 ppl only) Charges: 7.50 bucks a km (Call 011-45333333) or 15 bucks a km (011-43434343)

- Delhi Metro if you find it convenient. Where will you be travelling within Delhi ?

That's rather cheap, panky. Is it airconditioned cab? In central (read CP) and south Delhi they charge about Rs. 750-800 for 8hr/80 km in an aircon Indica. Bigger car (Indigo/Esteem) types is Rs. 1200.

Man this 7.50 bucks/km service is a major fraud. I've tried 'booking' their cab two times, last time was 3 days ago, and guess what, they tell me that they will only confirm the booking 45 mins before the departure time, depending on availability of a spare cab in the nearby area!! Many months ago, one of their call center guys told me that even if they'd confirm the booking, they can't guarantee that the car will reach me, as people would just jump in and hijack the cab without any booking, whenever there is an empty car sighted at any signal (the fare is so cheap, people end up flagging them like an auto ).

Wov!! Thanks a lot for the response guys. I think I should have given my requirements a little more in detail.. So here goes..

Day 1: Within Delhi
Day 2: Agra (Yes, Since my family is getting together we want to take a pleasure trip to Agra)
Day 3 4 and 5: Within Delhi

@Myavu: I am ok with the rate. But can you share more details like a min km or anything like that I should be knowing about?

@Sam: Sent you a PM

@ tsk, Eddy and Panky: I am ok with AC Innova/Qualis like you said. So if I understand correctly, It would be min 800rs a day for which I can run 8hrs or 80kms which ever comes first correct? How are the rates after this limit?

AND What would you guys suggest for the Agra trip? Remember we are 7 of us.

About 10bucks a km or so. Carry on for Agra in the same car.

But Agra will be boiling hot and the Taj is closed on Fridays

I also suggest book for local cab instead of Avis or Hertz. They charge more than double.

Pay as go is also a good option:
Delhi Cabs : 44333222
Easy Cab : 43434343
Hertz : 41841212
Mega Cabs : 41414141
Meru Taxi : 44224422

of all these Meru is the best, though they charge 15 Rs per KM, but only point to point and not garage to garage. And there cars are very good, mostly Indigo XL.

From local taxi, rates are fairly standard, like for Indica 500 Rs, 80Km, 8 Hrs, Non AC.
