The big temple is the Malai Mahadeshwara Temple, hence the name MM hills.

6:00 PM till 6:00 AM vehicles are not allowed in Bargur as it is thick reserve forest. Single lane road is good otherwise.
Since when is this restriction? I traveled from MM Hills to Mettur via Palar during the night earlier this year.

Awesome. I've always wanted to do this route.

Can you share more details. How long did it take to do Andiyur - Bargur? Ghat sections? Any villages inbetween? Buses ply this route??

By looking through Google Maps one can make out that this road passes through extremely thick forest.

The Mettur - MMHills route is different from this route.

No bus is plying this route.

Route will be closed between 6-PM till 6-AM.

First check post will be after 3 kms from Andhiyur main junction.

It is a thick reserve forest with lot of elephants.

Forest ranger will be asking for valid reason to for commuting to this route.

Single lane bumpy road. Take any SUV it will be better. Avoid 800, alto, Zen kind of cars as it will have to face under body crater.

Looks like the Andhiyur - Kollegal route is the real 'road less travelled'..that is waiting to be explored. Can't wait to borrow a SUV and watch the wildlife there.

Re: Mettur to Kollegal via MMHills

Sorry for bumping off an old thread, but me and a few buddies plan to ride to Stanley Reservoir through the Krisnagiri-Dharmapuri route and on the way back wanted to take the MM Hills - Kollegal - Malavalli - Kanakapura route to Bangalore. Has anyone been on this route recently. How is the condition of the road from Stalnley Reservoir to Kollegal and Kanakapura? The ride is planned for the coming Saturday and your inputs are much appreciated.

Hi SS, sorry I'm just 2 months late to reply, but still, we traveled till the Barachukki falls via Kanakapura-Malavalli and the roads are awesome, and the route, scenic. If you did your trip, curious to know the conditions. Thanks.

Re: Mettur to Kollegal via MMHills

I traveled in this route in April.

Bangalore to Maddur - good
Maddur to Kollegal - very good , good and bad(due to construction on another lane)
Kollegal to MM hills -Bad initially but the roads on the hills is very good(new fund allocations and hence newly relaid).
MM Hills towards Hogenakkal was bad initially but later good upto Hogenekkal due to Pradhan mantri gram sadak stuff, Beware of deer crossing at super speed.

Which route did you take for this? Also where did you cross the river?

Re: Mettur to Kollegal via MMHills

The bridge near Kollegal is still closed, I took first right after Malavalli to Talakad, then cross the bridge, after a few kilometers take a sharp left and go towards Kollegal, Roads are good except for detours for some or the other constructions.

There are temporary boards indicating directions to Kollegal, but I just ask locals to confirm.

If you plan to visit any of the falls then this route will not take you there. For the falls you have to go straight after Malavalli and take left.

Regards

Didn't take that route at all. Infact me and my buddies took the Anchetty route to Hoganekal and from there we rode to Stanley Reservoir and came back via Dharmapuri-Krishnagiri.

Folks, any recent updates about the condition of the Mettur - Kollegal route?

Is it doable by car?

Thanks!

My uneducated guess is - should be fine. MM hills is a popular destination for pilgrims from both sides. The place itself has seen a lot of development over the years.

I did Kollegal-Mettur last weekend on my motorcycle.
Roads are good overall. On TN side, its perfect. On the Karnataka side, not all that smooth especially in the ghats, but no potholes. Nearing Kollegal, there are road works happening and some stretches that are not asphalted, but not too bad.
