Guys,

Its slowly creeping up to that time of the year when the kids have school break. Need to start planning for a road trip from Chennai. I was thinking of either of the places mentioned above. Which would be better to visit in April or May ? I would need suggestions for places to visit around both and good places to stay (3-4K per day)

thanks for your help guys

my suggestion is Munnar - you wont realize it is Summer at all if you go there.
a good place to stay is the Club Mahindra place near Lockhart.
check on the net

Coorg is also very nice but hotter and dustier as compared with Munnar since Coorg is at a much lower elevation than Munnar.
but an advantage is that there are loads of home stays in coorg easily accessible via the net.

For me, tea country is always more appealing than coffee country because of the "open aspect" of the plantations and the higher elevation needed for growing tea plants. Plus the near vertical hillsides clad in a green carpet of tea never fails to inspire me hugely!

+1 to that, coorg will be hot and munnar will be cool, so munnar has to be your choice.

Considering that you are coming from chennai, coor will be cooler and munnar colder!
I'd prefer coorg over munnar if I'm coming from chennai. It's more laid back.

Its a summer break for your kids. Take both the places in your stride !
Do a good TN-Kerala-Karnataka circular trip!

Yes Munnar will be cooler.

Thanks for your suggestion guys.

If Munnar, what would be a good place to stay ?

There are a couple of places on the road to devikulam. Its a good place, far from the town, good drive. Club Mahindra is one that you can look, but it is on the expensive side.
The other hotels on the way are cheaper.
However, now being summer, the rates will be higher.

In Munnar i can suggest a place in which i stayed abad copper castle.

In Coorg, you can stay at capitol village, its really good VFM

Try Siena Village. Very good VFM. 2Km down the line from Club Mahindra. Also note that all these places are not in Munnar town. They are in Chinnakanal, which is about 22Km from the town. So you need reach these places before dark. Generally the highway is covered with heavy fog.

I've just been back from a trip to Munnar. Here are the details,

Check out Pg.2.

The weather in Munnar is pleasant. Not too cool that we need sweaters.

Thanks Kishore. Just had a look and your pics show the place in all their glory.

Any more pics of Abad ?

Around 12Kms from Munnar on the Adimali route, I have seen one hotel "Misty Mountain". The view from the location where the hotel is simply amazing. I love this view and there are lots of tea gardens below this hotel where one can spent lots of time walking through the road.

Their rates are bit on the higher side. I have passed through that road many times - but, never stayed.

Photo taken from the main road below the hotel - around 6:00pm in the evening.

I just wanted to know if any BHPians have stayed there. If yes, please share your experience - good or bad.

Even I have only seen it on the way and reminded myself of Tolkien and Led Zeppellin with me doing the Misty Mountain Hop ! Not stayed there though, But yes the views were stunning. agree:

Sorry for the late update. Had critical work in office and could not spend much time online

What route would be advisable to go to Munnar from Chennai. Can I make it in one day to Munnar if I leave early (say around 6 - 6.30 AM).

Sorry if I am OT here but arent Ooty or Kodaikanal 'cooler' options than either Munnar or Coorg ?
